At about the XXnth chapter starts the detailed description of sadistic tortures that the prisoners suffer from their secret police and military torturers. Do you feel that this is a necessary description both for the integrity of the heroes as much as for the knowledge of the reader? What does it offer to the reader or to the narrative?



I believe the writer wanted to shed some light on a dark period in Latin American history. Having 'dissidents' disappeared was a popular tactic for these Latin American dictatorships.

Magda it always is (for any dictatorship). but that doesn't shed any light as for the reason or the purpose of analytical, detailed description of tortures. ...more

I enjoyed the book. Fascinating read about the dictator and I believe it.
