The main theme of the book, Matched, is all about a girl named Cassia trying to figure out if the society she currently lives in is corrupt or not and whether that has caused outcomes in her life as well as others to be too artificial and planned out. This is all because of how Cassia is starting to fall in love with a different person, not her match or the one that the officials, the rulers of the society, say she will end up with. Along her journey, she starts to break rules and keep secrets, things that are never done, and she starts questioning how her life would’ve been different if she had the option to make her own decision and not the officials. The book is a combination of mystery, adventure, and romance all in one. For example, as she thinks to herself, “ I let myself imagine futures that can never be, the two of us together, “ (Condie, page 259), Cassia realizes she is falling in love with a person who is unable to be marry anyone due to his past and the society rules, even when she has her match already. Also, Cassia’s risk-taking side has her doing the unexpected, and the author keeps you on your toes because you never know what’s going to happen next. I enjoy the author’s writing style because it’s easy to get into the book, and she uses words and a type of lingo that you would normally use today, like when thinking to yourself in your head. I find the book very interesting and would certainly read the next one in the trilogy.
