Episode 3, Season 4 "The Economist"

The actual book is not shown in this episode, but the movie The Marathon Man with Dustin Hoffman (1976) is actually pretty evident as an influence in this episode for several reasons:

1) The end of the episode is reminiscent of a very popular scene in the film.

2) Sayid is a torturer and Dustin Hoffman is tortured in that film by a Nazi professional torturer.

3) Dustin Hoffman is tricked by a falling for a Elsa who betrays him (like Elsa in this LOST episode who betrays Sayid).
