I can't recommend William T. Vollmann enough. He's my artiste du jour. I'm currently making my way through The Royal Family, which is heart-wrenchingly great (but not for the squeamish). Though, I'd recommend Europe Central to one and all. It's WW2 history mixed in with some beautifully told stories. Recommend to the highest power.
I picked up a copy of the Magnificent Miner out in Kalgoorlie a couple of weeks ago and am slowly making my through it at the moment: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
It's really quite fascinating reading about this chap that had so much impact in making Western Australia the place we know today.

Angela, did you know Hal Colebatch lives in Nedlands and just realised a new book called 'Australia's Secret War'? You might be interested.

I'm reading Carson McCuller's book The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. After some good advice to finally put down 'The Mountain' which was extremely dull and tedious, I've started this new book and I'm enjoying it immensely. I've already recommended it to Angela and a few other people. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Didn't know he lived in Nedlands specifically. He lectures at UWA though I think...
