Normally Jared had no reason to be out in the stables where the horses were kept. There were three horses but he wasn't there to feed them or even groom them. He was just there to get some peace and quiet because everyone else chattering away in the camp, moping about and so on, was getting on his last nerve. It seemed most of the kids from his elementary school days didn't really make it to the camp but he was fine with that. Jared was never fond of them, he wasn't very fond of people in general, aside from his family, so the less there were the better in his opinion. Staying right outside of the stables because it smelled inside, Jared took a seat on a fallen log, bringing out his notebook and pen to record what had happened in his day so far. Even before the invasion Jared was always writing away in his notebook, never missing anything because he was able to remember everything from the second he woke up to the moment he rested his head on the pillow. Before it was for fun, but now the young boy felt as if it was his job to record their ongoings. After all, if they were able to chase the Koreans out of America, they would need something to look back on for the history books, right? With a hint of a smile, he started scribbling away, not expecting anyone to come by and interrupting his moment of peace.
Well, there you had it. On one hand were the people like Jared that were coming out to the stables to be alone. Even studiously recording all that occurred within the camp. Then there was Cody. Who was inside the stables, sneaking a sugar cube to one of the horses. Oh....wait...what? Sugar cubes? For the horses? In the middle of a ration war!!! And the horses were getting sugar?! While the people got watered down soup?! Yup. That was just the way that Cody did things. He didn't give the horses sugar often. And he only gave it to the horse because one of the scouts had found it under a bed when first cleaning up the camp. It was old. A little dusty. But still good. For the horses anyway. Smiling, Cody couldn't help but enjoy being around the horses. They were loving and while thin and with somewhat raged coats, they were still beautiful. Not to mention that Horses? Horses are better than people. After a few moments of stroking the Horse's muzzle, Cody smiled and headed out of the stables, knowing that soon he'd have to go do his job and wanting to prolong things a bit. Dishes were gross. It was then that he noticed the boy sitting on a fallen log, writing in some old fashioned notebook thing. From what he knew the kid was obviously someone's little sibling. Someone blonde.......which had to be...Juliette? Perhaps. It wasn't like he knew everyone though, and it wasn't that big a deal. Walking over he was curious as to what the kid was writing. For a kid the boy looked very serious...as if all the joy was sucked out of him and replaced with stoicism. "I like this kind of weather. Cold enough for pants but not so cold that t-shirts are unacceptable. It's nice." He could have been talking to himself, outloud. He wasn't but he could be dismissed as doing such.
(view spoiler)Someone was talking? Someone was talking. Someone was talking. Was this person talking to him? It sounded as if it was nonsensical rambling. Nonetheless, some people around there tried to turn rambling into an actual conversation, so perhaps he should reply quickly and the person might just leave him alone. Jared's first reaction to hearing someone close by was to shut his journal but he doubted the person would be able to read his handwriting, especially if he kept it hidden partially with his body. Looking up he immediately recognized the guy as Cody, mainly because he has seen him around the halls at the high school. Wasn't he a very cheery guy? Jared was rather good at remembering names and pairing them up with faces, but as for recalling personalities was a different matter. Mainly because he's never had the chance to interact with this guy much before, but he's heard about him.
Quickly reminding himself that he should be smiling, Jared's curved upwards into a simple friendly smile even if he wasn't feeling all too friendly that morning. "Yes, it is rather nice out today," he agreed, "Despite all that has been happening, at least the sun is shining and the weather is nice." There was no sarcasm in his voice, surprisingly. It almost sounded as if he was seriously grateful for the weather but it was all an act. Could you tell? Perhaps you could. Jared was a little tired, so his act might be slipping, but he thought he was doing just fine. "I'm Jared, in case you were wondering." He closed his journal first before standing up to extend a hand out to Cody in greeting.
[I'm sorry xP I haven't been very active lately. I'll just free up your charrie here]Something about the way Jared replied alerted Cody to something. It wasn't anything that Cody could place in particular, just something was off about the kid. There was something to the young boy's smile, it wasn't as filled with joy as most children's smiles were. Cody? He was an excellent judge of smiles. Being the mascot he knew every kind of smile there was. Joyful. Embarrassed. Forced. All types and he was pretty good at being able to judge them easily. Which was why he didn't force any sort of conversation with Jared. The boy was obviously busy anyway, with his notebook. In fact thinking about it, perhaps it was rude to just start bothering him the way he had. Still, he reached out and shook Jared's hand with a bright grin. "Cody. Sorry....I realize now I probably bothered you. No doubt you want some peace and quiet." Laughing slightly he withdrew his hand and then shrugged, "And besides...My break is over soon anyway." With a half-wave/half-salute he quickly left Jared to get back to his journal.
