I've read both and liked them. They were both were interesting and helped develop the world or book 1 characters a bit.

I guess I'm just cheap, but novellas seem way overpriced to me in general.
But I spend hundreds of dollars on books. I want to get the most for my money.

I purchased them in ebook and I have an audio version somewhere as well. I am starting to get the powder Mage in hardback now. Think I will wait for all these shorts to be in a single volume. Plus shipping is expensive to the UK.
I've loved all the works in this world. I saw that Murder at the Kinnen Hotel was just released. It's a story on Adamat...who's one of my favorite characters.
Just finished Return to Honor which is a nice story for Vlora fans.I got my copy through my library after seeing that it was $2.99 for a 51 page novella which turned out to be only 34 pages of story. What is the deal with the ebook pricing? I was ok with spending $1 for a short story but not into spending $1 for every 11 pages.
Will probably pick up the rest of the stories if they release in an omnibus at some point.
Man. I wish my library carried that stuff, because I pretty much refuse to pay those prices.
I'm probably spoiled by the costs of novels, and novellas are probably equivalent to say t-shirts at a concert. The author gets more of the money, so it's probably a good way to support authors you like, but I just can't get my brain to agree.

I can make suggestions for my library to purchase certain books. So far they have purchased about half my suggestions. Which I think is very good.I don't mind the cost of the full lenght novels so much but think $3 is too much for the novellas. I would have been pissed if I bought it though because a third of it was not the story.
My own library doesn't even carry the novels. If I wanted to borrow them I'd have to go to the next county over (which is a 15min drive, and I find faster/easier than doing ILL). They seem to get more SFF, and graphic novels/manga than my county does.
Thats a shame. My library is the central branch so it has a much larger selection than most. Currently have about 6000 fantasy ebook titles available. Most of the physical books are outdated but there is a huge selection there as well. Return To Honor was the only McClellan novella available.
Yeah. but I refuse to pay for coffee either. At least not regularly. And when I do I pay less than $3 unless my sister forces me to go to Starbucks.
I think of it in terms of time/enjoyment i get from it. $3 for a novella i read in half an hour and probably won't read again is too much for me. If it were around 100 pages I would go for it. I would rather buy an omnibus of short stories/novellas like Side Jobs: Stories From the Dresden Files than a bunch of singles even if they ended up being the same cost in the end. Just how it translates in my mind I guess. It kind of makes me think of how every game now has dlcs and extra content available for additional costs.

thanks Alex
I think people (in this group?) have been saying they'd like to see all the short stories put together in a single volume - he's releasing a bunch of them together (hardcover or ebook)http://www.brianmcclellan.com/blog/in...
I had the pleasure of speaking the Brian McClellan today at the London Comic Con. Part of the conversation was around his shorter fiction, which i am a fan of, as it expands the world a little more or provides a little history to our characters. It may not be a 100% financial success, but it is a fan pleaser.Brian stated that he hopes to release 2 more novellas after the last book (which i believe will be called Blood of Empire). Bringing the total to 8, which he believes is a nice number to make into a collection. I agree and would love to get a nice Hardback of all the novellas. Nothing specific was mentioned on short stories.
He also stated that this would end the Powder Mage stories (unless he has a great idea that would work). He would like to work on a new series in a new world. No idea what that was (there were other people behind me wanting to meet him).
He was a really nice guy and if you ever get the chance to meet him, do so. Highlight of my day at the con.
I'd like a collection simply because I find shorter works sold as ebooks to be overpriced compared to collections. Also, I'd like to see it turned into an audio book.
At one point I got several of Brian McClellan's stuff though for free/cheap. I never got around to reading any of it though.
He said something on Sword & Laser last month about "being done for 10 years". I thought he meant writing, but I presume he meant with the Powder Mage stuff.
That's fine by me. I'll happily read a different series by him at this point. I'd like him to come back to the world eventually, but if he doesn't have a good idea for a story, no point forcing it.
Glad you got to meet him!

Speaking of new series, this popped up in my amazon deal of the day feed - it's pre-release, new world novella by Brian McClellan - no idea if it is a pre-cursor to his new series or a one off.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...
War Cry
I haven't listened to the podcast so maybe he already spoke about it - just caught me by surprise. had to click on the author profile to make sure it was the same Brian McClellan :)
