Wow A.f. and Denise, I like your sites. Denise I decided I'd creep you out and follow you. Maybe I'll follow A.F. too. I'm researching stalkers for a new idea. I don't know, there's a lot of time involved in stalking someone. I'm afraid my attention span isn't long enough to make me a successful stalker.
Hello everyone, someone suggested I post here as well, so here goes. I'm a new writer in Canada from England. It is difficult for me to learn the differences let alone being a new author too..ha ha. But not being vain here, I know I'm writing a "one day" best seller, as my work is based on a true story about a disabled woman born in 1899. I know I'll need a good editor when I'm finished. One thing I know how to do very well is BOOK TRAILERS/ READINGS to advertise their books and poetry using different accents.
Prices start low at just $100. If you're interested then fling me an email, thanks. You will find a few samples at the two websites below:

I hope my html links work...ha ha.

Eugene; The first link didn't work for me, came up page not found.
Book trailer, wow, really creepy. I need to get me one of those, if I ever get one of these darn things published.
Myspace page; very cool.
I didn't realize you were Canadian. Welcome to the group.
You go Stan!! Great site. You have been a busy man. I'm going to have to check out your books. I've never heard of Inhouse Press. Are they traditional, POD? Just wondering, so everyone knows. It's tough to find publishers at all, let alone Canadian. Although, they aren't accepting unsolicited manuscripts. That seems to be the way when they sound promising.
INHOUSEPRESS (one word, all capitals) is a dedicated small publisher. It is not they but I who decided to go the POD way. I had no decent distributors in the 350M US market, let alone UK and Canada. POD, through my American printer, offers me worldwide online distribution.
Jo-Anne!
I really like your website...you have so much great information, and I really like the cover to 'Conquer All Obstacles'
When you wrote 'still another 6 months to a year before it hits the stands' do you mean from now, or was that written 6 months to a year ago?
I look forward to reading it!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Sincerely,
Ali :)
P.S. Great looking family!

I just added a page to my site. IT's my Hometown page, just a shout out to Tweed, the booming metropolis. I'm new to the website stuff, so please forgive anything that is wonky. I will have it fixed.http://rjmiller.weebly.com/hometown-p...
Just a fun, wow that place is really small, sort of thing. Enjoy!

I'm a Contemporary Romance Writer, and I have three books published with PublishAmerica including my latest release "Evangeline's Fantasy Man."All my books are available everywhere on any online bookstore in Trade Paper, but from my publisher at www.publishamerica.com they are also available in Hardcover and in Large Print. These are my websites

Karen, let us know when your site is up.ida; I published my children's books with publish america, though I haven't been overly pleased with the results. You have done really well, I'm going to assume you busted your butt and worked like an animal.
Great sites and good for you.
Thank you Renee! You do have to promote and promote your books. It would be great to get some help though!
That's my frustration. It's hard too, living here in Canada and trying to get people to buy. It's so expensive. Did you find that too? They're great and are willing to give you a chance but, man, they price them really high.
So Renee, are you saying it woud be better for a writer in Canada to aproach a publisher in another country? Congratulations on your success
JE$$IE
No actually, I'm not. I think if a writer in Canada can get a Canadian publisher that's the way to go.I went with publish america because they were willing to give me a chance and I was brand new to the publishing game, and although my books are selling they aren't selling here. Why? It's too expensive.
I don't think that's better at all. I managed to get a local store to order my book and they had to retail it for 24.95. That's insane for a children's paperback of only 80 or so pages. They sold but I wasn't happy about the inflated price.
The sad fact is that the odds are better for you to get published if you look outside of Canada. Most of our publishing houses are small and independent, publishing only a few titles each year.
Hopefully it won't always be this way, we have far too much talent here going to waste.
I agree the prices are a killer!I wish the books were priced cheaper,it would be much better and appealing to the potential buyers!
yes, even if I order it, as the author, the shipping kills me. It's crazy. I still have to retail them fairly high, just to break even and no royalty if I do that.Oh well, the experience has been worth it and I've learned no one is going to market you as well as you can. That's very important in this business.
i considered PA - but decided against when I asked around and heard that (a) their pricing was crazy and (b) many authors were angry because they were locked in to PA for 7 years... so I went with Booksurge (like Raine) - you pay a publishing cost but you end up with competitive pricing, a high royalty via Amazon, (35%) and a cancellable contract (any time without notice)

Yes I will for sure Renee. What do you do to promote your work Ida? any fresh ideas?
Hi Peter, Thank you for that info. A friend of mine was very angry she was locked in with PA for 7 yrs. I don't know how she did it, but she got out of the contract.JE$$IE

Jessie I went with Trafford and there publishing agreements are on a book to book basis. They give u discounts on packages if you publish with them multiple times.
"
Thank you Karen,At this time I am not searching for a publisher, although I have a trade one who is very interested in my present WIP.
In addition, I produce readings for authors and publishers alike. They're easily added to any website etc and DO produce higher sales. My trailers do not merely hint at the story with a few words, sounds and pictures, I add a short reading as well, using different UK accents.
One writer submitted a trailer I produced of their work in an online submission to a publisher and it landed a trade contract for that author! Cool.

Those are great Je$$ie. I'm going to send you all the kids bedtime stories and you can record them so I don't have to read them and hear "Not like that mommy, that's not Ariel's voice!!" She'll like your voice, it's soothing. Mine yells too much.

Glad you enjoyed some of my readings. My personal favourite is the "Ole in the Ark" poem. It was so much fun. I had to make my voice 'wet' so it would sound like an old Lancashire woman with that one! Ha.
So yes lass, fling the bedtime stories over! I love reading for kids! (I'm a big kid myself...haha)
My reply to Karen,
I will let people know which publisher when things are more concrete, as its still a WIP. (Maybe my story sounded more exciting in audio than in print, as I'm a new author. I produced my own trailer for my first novel.) Who knows, but I have them highly interested in what they deem to be "an intriguing story"! Yahoo! Although I must finish the work first before sending. They told me to hurry up..haha. So I hammer away at my keyboard....

Thanks, Renee. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm still wrapping my ahead around the blog phenomenon and how to get people to subscribe to the RSS feed. What has your experience been in that respect? I perused your current blog entry and enjoyed it. I only wish I had time to read everything -- books and blogs -- that interest me. Michael
I haven't figured that out either. I don't even know if people follow mine. I know blogs are very popular, I follow some myself but I'm not subscribed. i was but the email got ridiculous. You are notified each time they post a new one. I just go on now and then and read what they've posted since my last visit. what is the purpose of the RSS feed?
My blogs aren't as thought provoking as yours, i generally just write my thoughts, or the happenings in the big town of Tweed. Occasionally someone finds it funny, or interesting, or just darn sad. That's okay, as long as they read it right.
There's never enough time it seems, my to-read list is enormous and my other lists like writing, sites to check out, etc. gets longer as well. There should be a 26th or even 27th hour in each day. Maybe then we could catch up. More likely we'd just add more to our lists.
Renee: RSS feed is the means by which you subscribe to a blog. Once you subscribe to the RSS feed, new content from the blog (or at least notice of it - I'm not sure which) is automatically e-mailed to you. It saves you from having to access the blog and check for new content. There is no right or wrong when it comes to what you write in your blog. If it interests people, it's good by definition. But finding a way to stand out amidst the thousands of blogs out there is the challenge.
And yes, more hours in a day would be nice. Or maybe I just need to learn to live without that annoying necessity sleep. I'd have 7 or 8 more working hours in every day! Michael
I don't know how you seem to get so much done, Renee. I think your days must have more hours than mine.. Also I think you must do better at 'multi tasking' than we mere men do.I have been labouring today at a new post for my blog - and the day just disappeared... I 'know' that an author has to think like a farmer and cultivate all the fields - but 'knowing' and 'doing' are different things.
I'm an impatient person, I want things done yesterday. Also I know my attention span is small so I need to do as much as I can in a short amount of time.I check emails and such throughout the day. When the kids are eating breakfast, lunch and supper usually. Writing is done at naptime and after my kids are in bed. Everything else like cleaning, pets, baths and stuff is done throughout the day. It's crazy here, but I don't know what I'd do without the chaos.
I also have really great kids, who will occupy themselves if I say 'Give Mommy just 20 minutes and we can do this or that,' We set the kitchen timer and usually I don't hear a word until it goes off.
I wish I had more hours, I never seem to get around to things like editing but I'm getting better. I try to put the same amount of time into that as I do writing each day. I treat it as homework, I don't get to sleep until it's done. Makes for some long days, but I'm more disciplined about it.
somedays, absolutely nothing gets done. Those are my favorite days only because they go so slowly. Just read, play, or watch movies. we make sure we have one of those each month at least. It's good for the kids.
