BOTM for 25th August with Angela Marsons
Hi all, I will join in with this. Just recently read The middle child and My name is. Angela Marsons is a new author to me, very readable so far.
I am looking forward to the thrillers, they are good stories with interesting characters, I hope you enjoy them Christine.
Sean:That sounds great! I will have to shape up and get some reading done.

PS - Thanks for the kind words - my words to you were with good intentions. Your group really has been a game changer for me since I am disabled. This I very much appreciate my friend.
Looking forward to this as I have read
and have Evil Games on my kindle yet to read. This is perfect!!
I just bought both books---can't wait to get started! I'm new to the group--is this a book for August? I saw August 25--is this the start date?
I may be wrong, Kathleen, but I think the 25th is when the author will be doing a Q&A. The rest of the month will be read and discussion of the book amongst members.Welcome to a great group, by the way :~)

I enjoyed Silent Scream and - quite coincidentally - I started Evil Games last night - then just now I saw this thread!
"She remembered reading somewhere that conscience was no more than the fear of being caught."Maybe for minor things like going slightly over the speed limit?
Marm? Another form of ma'am? I can only think of a school marm, and don't know where that comes from wither.
Perri wrote: "Marm? Another form of ma'am? I can only think of a school marm, and don't know where that comes from wither."Yes. Marm is Madam, Guv is Governor - like calling someone Boss, I suppose.
Thank you Kath,I had both marked to look it up later (since the WiFi-connection in my bedroom is gone once again, don't need to do it anymore) - good to know Perri's and mine idea was right. Yupie!

That's yuppie - young urban professional person independent educated. Only, here in Kansas farm country we call them young urban pig producers. Then when yuppies get married the are dinks - double income no kids and so on .....
I'm up to chapter 12 of Silent Scream and still enjoying the book. I'm not really a big fan of police procedurals, but this one reads differently to most others I've tried. really enjoying the writing style.I wasn't so keen on one part where the "Black Country" was mentioned, and the narrative diverted to say how it had got its name. Felt somewhat like reading non-fiction. This was counteracted immediately though with some great dialogue with a pathologist that gave a real essence of the principle character's personality.
Ok. Reading on.
I looked up borstal-a now defunct juvenile detention center focusing on education rather than punishment. Strict authority and disciple oriented. Were the connotations of abuse and molestation part of a country wide problem?
I'm not at that part yet.The only information I have of borstal was from the hard hitting film of the 70s: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079871/p...
I do recall 70s Northern England being a tough place to grow up, and that Borstal was talked about in schools as a place to be feared for wrongdoers.
I grew up in seventies and parents would threaten their sons in particular with borstall if they misbehaved. No borstalls left anymore. They could perhaps be compared with US military academies? I remember watching a film where a problem teen was sent to one of these because the parents felt he needed more discipline. I may have it wrong but I thought it was a similar place.
Yes I remember about Borstal, thing is, maybe that was a good thing in the past considering some of todays youths
Both of these books are great! Enjoy everyone!!
I finished Silent Scream a couple of weeks ago and am about halfway through Evil Games. I really like DI Stone, even though she's not really very likable. Kind of a hard shell, sort of soft center in a way. I actually thought she was going to take Barney.
