Dany had been overwhelmed within seconds in the crowded entry hall downstairs. So many gorgeous girls in swirling gorgeous gowns and gorgeous everything... Overwhelming, to say the least. Too much perfection in one room. Too much competition. She as kidding herself to think she'd last long enough to get a week's compensation, let alone enough to let her live comfortably in her new life.

So she'd exited the crowded hall the first chance she'd gotten, not really caring where she was headed. And now... Now she was on a never ending staircase, a masterpiece of white marble, and she hadn't the faintest idea where she was. Wonderful. Lost within her first moments in the palace. She'd be out within hours, let alone weeks. She wondered if she'd break a record. Wouldn't that be rich. She'd be remembered forever as the girl who'd screwed up before it was thought to be possible to screw up, the girl who'd gotten kicked out earliest. Maybe they wouldn't even make her a three, since she'd been here such a short time... She'd have to go back to her house...

She sat down on the stairs, her overly large dress floofing out around her, and wondered where she was and where on earth she was supposed to be.

Oh, Lord. And now a guard was here, and he was going to treat her like some frivolous little girl who didn't belong in the Selection, ask if she was lost, politely escort her to her room and then snigger about her with the other guards, the girl who'd gotten lost within minutes of entering the palace and needed some guard to help her find her way to her room. Fifteen minutes into the Selection and she'd be known as the incompetent one who wandered away from the group and sat down and waited for someone to find her like a small child lost in a crowd.

She settled on an eye roll. "Perfectly fine, thanks. Just wondering why it seems necessary to hinder all possible movement." She eyed the gorgeous but gigantic gown she'd been placed into. "My pettis are perfectly fine without this many coats." She just wanted to go to her room (wherever that might be in this labyrinth) and sleep for a few days, then emerge and possibly be ready for polite society. Dany was used to working, going to school, eating and sleeping. And that was really all she'd done with her life up to this point. How was she supposed to make it in this world of perfect curtsies and polite conversation? She might be a four, but she felt as though she might be at the bottom of the heap.

She nodded, chuckling and smiling a half smile. "I'll say it's goofy. Nice, too." Just impossible to walk around and sit in...

"Lost? No. Wondering why they don't routinely hand out maps at the front doors and why the architect of the palace appears to have had a fetish for endless hallways and staircases? Yes."

[ ugh i can't write long posts today sorry >.< ]

She shook her head with a roll of her eyes. "Nope. Pretty sure we were supposed to stay in the entrance hall or something but I'm pretty sure the person who decided the maximum occupancy of the room didn't think everyone would either have giant dresses or giant cameras... It was a bit of a fire hazard." She paused for a minute. "Maybe my room? I really don't know where it is, but if you'll give me some general directions I'll find it eventually."

She pointedly ignored the hand and pushed herself to her feet by herself. Being in a palace didn't negate her ability to stand up. She almost asked why he needed to know her name before deciding that it was probably for an actual reason and she might as well just tell him. "Dany." was her automatic reply. "Er, Daniella, I guess. Daniella Aquino." The flowery name felt strange on her tongue. No one called her Daniella except her mother, and that was on rare occasions. For all intents and purposes, Dany was her name, and it always had been. Daniella was a different person and she wasn't quite sure who that person was yet.
