Hi all,
I love to read all kinds of genres but right now am on a dystopian SF kick. Love the idea of a current book discussion I get sucked in sometimes on the hype of popular fiction.

I love anything Fantasy, Sci-Fi or Dystopian. Sometimes Thrillers (The Shining).
My favorite book, which belongs in none of those genres, is To Kill a Mockingbird.

I think one of my faves is Watership Down. There's just something about that book.

Oh yes, me too, which is why I started this book club.
Do you have any books in mind, that we can read to start out with? I posted two choices on the first poll, but I'm not sure what you guys think.
I don't think I ever got the chance to read any Dystopian SF, but I love dystopian novels. Would Ender's Game be considered one? I would really like to read that soon.

I loved Ender's Game it was very thought provoking not dystopian but a dim view of warfare in the future.

Lately, I've been developing a fondness for all those genres. I've been reading a lot of YA fiction series, and a lot of them are dystopian/fantasy types. Currently, I'm reading Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glass. Have you read it?

My other book club, Book Crazy, is supposed to read To Kill a Mockingbird until tomorrow but I will leave the discussion thread open (I read it for the first time, and I'm really glad the club picked it because of all the hype about Go Set a Watchman). I loved the movie. I thought Asa Butterfield did a great job. And the ending was really emotional, and yes, thought provoking. “When I understand my enemy well enough to defeat him, then in that moment, I also love him.” Was that quote from the book itself? I was wondering.

It's about this girl who is supposed to be the most notorious assassin, but nobody really knew the best assassin was a girl.. She was brought out of prison to fight against, I think, 22 other assassins (under an alias, so she pretends she's just mediocre and not the best) so she can compete and win to be the King's Champion (meaning, she kills whoever the king wants her to kill) and ultimately, gain her freedom after serving the king a number of years.

Oh yeah, Goodreads doesn't open it right away, so it won't be on until after midnight (12:01, exactly).
I put Go Set a Watchman and Girl on the Train. I don't want to put anything that I've already read.

Sounds cool I put it in my Amazon to buy list. The Night Angel Trilogy I picked this up the other day and it sounds real good. Also about assassins in a fantasy world

Looks great! I always find it cool to read in the guy's perspective. That's why it was such a new experience for me when I read The Maze Runner (unfortunately, the movie later on ruined it for me, so I don't even want to read the rest of the series anymore!)

Both of those sound good. I would lean more towards Girl on the Train but will read either.

That sounds a bit like Graceling. I'll have to check it out!

Yes. I read Graceling, just before I started Throne of Glass. I read Red Queen (which is another book getting some hype) and it was described as The Selection meets Graceling so since I read The Selection, I thought it was a given that I read Graceling too. Someone recommended Throne of Glass to me on Reddit when I posted how I liked Red Queen so much. I liked Graceling, especially the bit about the two eye colors and the different and uncertain Graces, but so far I like Maas' style of writing better than Cashore's.

I believe the poll is now visible! I also added The Library at Mount Char. It did sound intriguing!

Cool let me know which so I can order. takes 2 days from amazon. Love the free shipping and the books are a lot cheaper than regular bookstore. Might do the Harper Lee on Kindle

This is my first book club on Goodreads. It will be nice to have people to talk books with.

Hello! I am Matthew and I was invited to this group because of witty comments about Carry On (that's probably not exactly true, but that is how I see it!).

I will read just about anything, and I like to keep up with pop culture titles so that I am "In the know"

I will try and participate in the discussions, but I am in a lot of book clubs (including moderating two) and I have to get some reading done too! (As well as my job and my family, of course!)
