Petra X (petra-x) A new site!

It is a kind of Facebook apparently where you can follow books and authors rather than a catalogue site.

"ThirdScribe is made for authors, regardless of whether they are self-published or through a traditional publisher."

Readers can post reviews and comments and their books though. Not only can they post them but,

"Consolidates Reviews - Not only can a book review be written directly from the Book Page, but it pulls in the reviews that book has received on Amazon and GoodReads as well!"

If anyone wants an access code I have one.

Nicci (niccit) Thanks for the info. I do have a code but I want to bang my head against the desk. The number of booksites becoming available is a little overwhelming.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments I have a code, but thank you, Petra.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 34 comments I've spent about 5 minutes looking around and I don't like it, though I'm not a member so maybe I'm not getting the full picture.

I'm failing to perceive their Unique Selling Point. Their FAQ didn't clarify much for me. It seems very underdeveloped, even for a brand new site. I'm not particularly fond of their interface - it's just a tad outdated.

Authors paying $50 per year for "access" to members/readers seems absurd when the blogging aspect is entirely duplicative; TS strangely imports all posts and comments directly from Wordpress:
http://robmcclellan.thirdscribe.com/2...
http://www.underwatersamurai.com/navy...

I'm not sure if there's two-way synchronization or just one-way.

Authors can interact with readers for free on their own blogs, do book tours or guest posts discussing their books on other blogs, or open their own group on GR or BL.

I am VERY WORRIED that TS says they're importing reviews from Goodreads and Amazon.

See 'Consolidates Reviews' http://blog.thirdscribe.com/faqs/what...

Thirdscribe appears a little dodgy to me. And I can see how BBAs can abuse too.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 445 comments It's not a brand new site. When it went beta, they posted lots of info to goodreads. Check blog posts https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...

On a Feedback thread, GR assured me that ThirdScribe could not import our reviews for their own use if the 'share the love' box in settings was not checked. Well, not unless there is the same bug that allows Google Books and Google Play to use 800+ of mine.

Dawn (dawnv) Thanks for posting I had never heard of it. This is all becoming overwhelming. At this point I would pay a site just so I could log and review my books (where the review is all mine) and discuss them with others who read the same book. I don't care if it is a author or blogger or publisher or regular old reader like me just so long as you read the book.

Hopefully that is not to much of a whine but this site looks relatively empty where are all the books??

Petra X (petra-x) ThirdScribe is not a cataloging site. Books can only be added by authors and are then followed by readers. I think its potential will be for writers of series who do gain fans who would like to chat about the books, interact with the author and other readers and read all the reviews.

Ohh. Series might be a good deal. But there's always fictfact and you don't have to worry about being advertised to.

Not to be a jerk but that sounds a lot like twitter.
Anyway thanks for letting us know it exists and I wish them the best of luck does not sound like a site for me.

Petra X (petra-x) I don't do Twitter. I think it is meant to be more like Facebook. I also don't know FictFact but I think that is following books/series. ThirdScribe is following authors as much as books since books can only be added by authors.

I see what Rob is trying to do with his site (I think), build a platform for authors who will have individual blogs that attract readers and fans.

It isn't my sort of thing at all. But the site has under 150 people, under 100 when I joined a few days ago, and I'm interested to see how a site grows.

Fictfact only tracks series, at least last time I was there. They've recently done an you update so I need to check it out.

You can do a lot of list stuff and you can have friends but it's mostly for tracking series and when a new book will be released.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 445 comments Fictfact 100% series only. Rate only, no reviews, extremely limited social.

But boy does it do a grand job with series and series features. Remind you of what's next to read in your series (you can always re-order series importance), when a new book in your series is published, etc.

Even if you don't want to join or use, the book release calendars are worth checking out (no membership needed). http://www.fictfact.com/BookReleaseCa...

I used fictfact alongside goodreads even when happy with my book catalog here. Still using happily.

Petra X (petra-x) Anyone still doing ThirdScribe?

message 15: by Randee (new)

Randee Baty | 23 comments I've never even looked back at it since the first day when I created an account. I couldn't see any benefit.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments Ms Bubbles SockieP wrote: "Anyone still doing ThirdScribe?"

Only when I get friend invites from authors, which I decline, and invites to join discussions about books I'll never read (ditto). I sign in, decline, leave.
