Klarissa G | 12 comments The second book in the Matched trilogy, Crossed, has many different themes that you can see upon reading. One of the themes that seems to stand out is that you shouldn’t follow what everyone says because it’s not necessarily right, or in other words it’s okay and encouraged to question authority. Throughout the entire book, Cassia continues to have her own thoughts and questions about the society and its rules. She runs away in hopes of finding the boy she loves and to escape the society. On her journey there, she gains information of a so-called “Rising” from before the society was formed and as strict as it is now. “ The Pilot leads the Rising – the rebellion against the society – and the Pilot never dies. When one Pilot’s time has finished, another comes to lead, “ (Condie, page 55). Determined to carry on and learn more about this rebellion, Cassia continues on to try and find some sort of sign that there are still people out there so help support that cause. Struggling with sickness and exhaustion, the real question is whether she makes it to the end or dies, and if she even finds her lover in time. I enjoy the author’s writing style in this book as I did in her first, but if you don’t pay attention you may become confused because the chapters alternate between Cassia’s thoughts and now adds Ky’s as well. The internal thoughts of the characters practically take over the book, so the story is dragged on a bit when I don’t think it should have to. The book contains romance, obviously since she is risking her life to find the one boy that she doesn’t think she can live without, and adventure with all of her traveling and breaking rules. I do recommend reading the book, especially if you enjoyed the first because it’s intriguing and different than other books today.

Jenna Burns | 13 comments I agree with how you said the book might get confusing because the switching of the character's thoughts every chapter, but overall, it sounds like an interesting book. You make this book sound exciting and adventurous with a twist of romance, and I will think about reading it or the first one soon.
