Looked through my horror shelf for the books that seemed promising but I never got around to reading, and will just throw some titles out that you can pick and choose from, Jon. The Lamplighters
Benjamin's Parasite
Elsewhere
Slob
Dawn by Octavia E. Butler sounds amazing. I'll drop all my other books on my TBR to read this one first!
Annihilation but it might be too Sci Fi, It but it might be too long for a group read and
John Dies at the End
I probably shouldn't argue against my own suggestions...
Jon, Ceremonies is on of my favorites. Love Klein's writing style and subtlety. Would love to do that as a group read.
I will second Geek Love and John Dies at the End since both are on my to read list. What about The Fog by James Herbert? That definitely fits the criteria and I never did get around to finishing that one...

The Ruins was also a great read, IMO.

I don't want to miss it this month :)"
Poll will go up in a few hours.

We're looking for the "What the fark was that?" things that go bump in the night."
How about Norman Partridge's Dark Harvest? The October Boy is..."none of the above."
Here's one I've been dying to read...
No vampires, zombies or werewolves, just things that go bump in the night....
Totally second Geek Love and The Ruins, I own those, and I have the Ebook of The Troop, so any of those would be awesome.
Whoops. I hadn't realised the poll was up - should have guessed, though, given the date! A number of the books in the poll look really interesting this time round. I think I'd be happy reading just about any/all of them.
Just took a look at the poll. It's showing that Geek Love is the winner for the March read.I think you guys are going to enjoy this novel. I read it a long time ago when it came out in 1989; it got an excellent review in Locus, the magazine devoted to announcements and reviews of speculative fiction of all kinds: sf, fantasy, horror, and all the various offshoots and little cousins of same. Bought my copy after I read the review (it was only available in hardback at the time).
Kindle version is $9.99, but Amazon is showing used paperback, and even hardback, copies for less.
For anyone unfamiliar with the novel, here's the Amazon summary:
"Geek Love is the story of the Binewskis, a carny family whose mater- and paterfamilias set out–with the help of amphetamine, arsenic, and radioisotopes–to breed their own exhibit of human oddities. There’s Arturo the Aquaboy, who has flippers for limbs and a megalomaniac ambition worthy of Genghis Khan . . . Iphy and Elly, the lissome Siamese twins . . . albino hunchback Oly, and the outwardly normal Chick, whose mysterious gifts make him the family’s most precious–and dangerous–asset."
