We need nominations for the Children's literature poll. Let us know what book you are suggesting. By children's literature we are not including YA.

Rules
* can't nominate your own book
* only one nomination per person
* first 6-8 books will be chosen
* need to tell us why you are suggesting this book
* be respectful of other people's choices

Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 86 comments I nominate Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Although it is one of the best known children's stories in the world we often know the Disney version which is very different from the original. A true classic.

M.L. | 309 comments I'll nominate Wonder by R.J. Palacio, about a boy who is normal/would like to be treated normal, but for the face he was born with.

message 5: by Franky (new)

Franky I'll nominate Charlotte's Web. It's considered a classic and has very important themes about friendship.

nice choices, still need a few more

message 7: by Sonali (new)

Sonali V What about The Wind in the Willows? It's a classic, somehow I've never got around to reading it, I recently heard Neil Gaiman and Philip Pullman discussing it...those are my reasons for nominating it.

Good one

message 9: by Karen (new)

Karen So many! I could nominate 10 or more without even thinking about it. A recent choice would be The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate and a classic favorite would be James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.

message 10: by Cristina (new)

Cristina | 20 comments I nominate one my favourite book as a child, namely The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

My all time favorite!

Loved this one too! Children's Lit is one of my favorite genres and therefore hard to choose.

I'll second - just finished reading it and would love a discussion.

Karen, We need you to nominate one I'm not sure which one you are nominating there.

We are still looking for a couple more nominations. So far we have;

Pinocchio
Wonder
Charlotte's Web
The Wind in the Willows
The Secret Garden

I guess I'll go with James and the Giant Peach.

MK (wisny) | 120 comments I would like to nominate Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry. I hesitated yesterday, because I wasn't sure if it was children's or ya, but the age range on Amazon says 9-12, so that seems like it Children's Literature.

I've never read this, but it's written by a two-time Newberry winner, and actually, this book did win a Newberry Medal. Also, I've been spending a lot of reading time recently with the European wars of the 20th century, so, the subject matter draws me.
