I am hoping to be able to start it soon (next week).
I have read some of the author's other work so I am looking forward to this one.
I have just found this book available at Alfalib online - and can be downloaded free as ebook (mobi, pdf and epub)Follow this link

Just about done with this book. Diane, I liked the narration by July Also thinking about white male slaveowners and the manner in which they possessed black women they owned, and their offspring
In a way they were breeding slaves to increase their wealth the way farmers breed livestock

Good, glad you read it too
I thought July's narration was original, had just read five slavery narratives and this one was certainly different and I liked the way she approached telling the story
It was indeed breeding .. also read the darkling trilogy today and there too, direct reference made to "breeding" and women seeing their role in that light
Just started reading the book - late as usual, though it has been on my TBR shelf for quite a long time!
