What are some books that just didn't live up to their beautiful covers? Or if they have an ugly cover then it's just really bad! I thought it might be fun to rant about all the terrible YA books, though it might be hard to believe they exist because there are so many amazing ones! :D

I read a book called Eve and Adam and I mean it wasn't that bad of a story, but it had nearly NOTHING to do with Adam and Eve. Basically it was about this girl that created a guy and she named him adam because her name was Eve. Oh and she got into an accident because she was starring at an apple in the store or something. Soooo it could have been so much better! The cover is soooooooo cool though and it was a good idea, it just didn't turn out right.

Ya, I read that book too. Cool cover, and the story was pretty good, but it really didn't go that well with the story of Adam and Eve.

Thank you! I stupidly chose this book for my "free read" in high school, based on my teacher's recommendation and I HATED it. The cover was nice, but I just had no idea what anyone was talking about...

Mia Alexandra I couldn't stand the house of night series , I read them because honestly I had to know what happened but honestly every knew boy character is automatically a love interest for the protagonist and it's so badly written like 'bull poopy' , really?

Ishi Bhanot Usually I'm able to go through any kind of novel whether its mystery or romance, comedy or anything else. But the only novel I haven't been able to even COMPLETE once, is The Moon And The More by Sarah Dessen ...
I wasn't even able to complete the book it seemed SO boring !!
P.S. : No offense to any of it fans ^_^

Haha, I agree with you there! I got the first book in the series as a present for my 15th birthday, and at the time I loved it, so I went back to B&N to buy the next two. After the third book, I left the series for awhile, and then I received "Hunted" about a year or so later, so I started it...and it was so bad! I didn't even finish it, which is rare for me, because my personal policy is to finish all books...(y'never know, each book has to have SOMETHING to offer, right?)but that one I just couldn't get through. Plus, the old-English spelling of "vampyre" annoyed the heck out of me, for whatever reason. (Likely because I take it upon myself to be Grammar Police.) Maybe they really should be referred to as "vampyres" but just spell it with an "i"! For Pete's sake, that wouldn't kill them, would it?

message 25: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Ramirez (melissaramirez) | 281 comments Also, the book "Meet the Applewhites" or whatever its name was. I bought it from a book fair years ago (we're talking fifth grade) and never finished it.
Couldn't even make it through the first couple chapters...and it was a middle-grade book, so it wasn't long, or anything! Maybe 200 pages at the most, but I couldn't do it.

message 28: by Rainbow Moonstone (last edited May 23, 2014 07:44PM) (new)

Rainbow Moonstone (rainbowmoonstone) | 5 comments Personally I thought Twilight was better than Divergent *gets shot*.I managed to get through all of the Twilight series and back then I didn't know what a mary-sue or a YA trope was oh so innocent. Divergent just isn't my thing because I disliked the main character and therefore spent the whole tine hoping for someone else to come along and throw her of a cliff. I wouldn't call Divergent the worst book ever because I liked the world, but its so overly hyped up that I dislike it.

The Dawn of the Dreadfuls:Prequel to Pride and Predjudice and Zombies was pretty bad. Its like one of those bad spoof movies but in book form. Having the Benet sisters be Kung-fu fighting Ninjas was funny for like, 5 minutes then it just got embarrasing.

Also, I haven't read it but I'm pretty sure 50 shades of Grey would be one of the worst books ever...considering some of the excepts I've read.

message 29: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 203 comments I wasn't a fan of Born at Midnight... Still deciding if I want to continue the series.

message 30: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Ramirez (melissaramirez) | 281 comments I just have to add "Garden State", by Rick Moody. I know I wrote on another thread that it wasn't that bad, but I really didn't enjoy it all that much. Aside from a partly-redeeming ending, I found the characters
trange, and one-dimensional, and it had a dramatic, "Look-at-me,-'cause-I-use-big-words" writing style, which irritated me a little. Just vague storytelling in general...a weird little book.
And yet, people and critics have raved about it; so I'm probably missing something, but oh well.

Not my kind of book. It actually ended up being more focused on one character, and then at the end, it was as if the author said "Oh yeah, I've also got three other main characters to work with!" and tacked on the rest of their stories at the end.

Basically, "It's Kind of a Funny Story" for an older, more mature audience.
Only less witty.
And a lot more grim and depressing.

Rainbow Moonstone (rainbowmoonstone) | 5 comments Of Poseidon (The Syrena Legacy, #1) by Anna Banks

This is just my opinion but Of Poseidon did not live up to its beautiful, beautiful cover. It was pretty bad.

I learned not to judge a pretty book over its cover after Across the Universe.

message 33: by Santiago (new)

Santiago (colloportus) | 1 comments I'm gonna add Hush Hush to this list of horrible books. The entire series was awful and Nora Grey was annoying as hell. It took me like 3 months to finish the series /:

message 34: by Mia Alexandra (new)

Mia Alexandra I'd have to say Rebel Belle , I'm sorry but I hated it sooo much I got through two pages in two days and I kept thinking you know maybe it'll get better my the third day I finished the first chapter and just had to return it.

message 35: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 203 comments I hated the dream catcher series! Unfortunately back when I read this series I had a rule to never abandon a series so I read all three books!

message 36: by Melissa (last edited Jun 28, 2014 04:19PM) (new)

Melissa Ramirez (melissaramirez) | 281 comments Ashley, I feel similarly. I generally HATE abandoning books in the middle - I feel really guilty doing it because I feel like I'm not giving it a chance. But over the past couple years, I've resolved to abandon books only after the first 50 pages or three chapters. If it hasn't grabbed my attention by then, I let it go.

There's a writer who has a quote...something along the lines of "All books have something to teach you; whether or not you actually like them." and I think that's a good sentiment. Although it was the main thing keeping me reading the books I didn't so much care for...
Still, I think the quote holds true. :) There are SO many good books out there though...so I feel like, y'know - why suffer through books you don't like? Put it down, and keep exploring to find a better book! But that's just me personally.

message 37: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 203 comments Yeah that makes sense. For the last couple of years i've given up my earlier ideas about abandoning books and now if I just can't stand a book I'll move on to another. There's no point on finishing a book if you just utterly hate it.

Melissa Ramirez (melissaramirez) | 281 comments I'm gonna also add "How To Ruin a Summer Vacation" by Simone Elkeles.

This book, man; I'm tellin' you! Ugh.
One of the most ignorant, rude, and arrogant main characters I have ever come across. She frequently whines, and complains, and she hates animals of all kinds, and just her life in general. She's supposed to be almost 17 - she is the biggest whiner! That's just poor characterization. Unless you want your readers to think that all 16 and 17 year olds are self-absorbed complainers...I guess there are a lot who are, but I also know a lot who are not. My parents would be slapping me upside the head if at 16, I whined half as much as Amy did in this book!
And then by the last chapter, she's all "Oh my gosh, I love my Israeli boyfriend so much, even though he was forced to join the army against his will, which I don't agree with, but I actually ended up having a great summer in Israel, and it turned out to be the summer that taught me the most about love, friendship, and life!"
Puke. WAY too sickly sweet for my taste.
