I managed to get to the cinema at the weekend to see The Book Thief and I was relieved with the way the story was portrayed. The actors were perfectly cast in my opinion. The film managed to evoke the same emotions that I experienced when reading the book which I was quite shocked with...I very rarely like films and tend to not get as involved in them. And yes I couldn't help but cry in the cinema which I found a bit embarrassing!
Overall I definitely preferred the book but the film was very good.
Has anyone else read the book and seen the film? What do you think?

Sam Arnold (samharnold) Saw the film today and agree with you. I loved the cinematography and the casting was inspired. They certainly left bits out but I didn't think that spoilt it at all. I gave it 5 stars when I reviewed it both the film and the book.

Lacey Stephens | 29 comments Yes, it's a little hard to follow at the first. It's narrated through the voice of "death". It gets really good about half way through. Stick with it.

I struggled with this book for so long. I started it over a year ago and then quit. About three months ago I picked it back up and started from the beginning with the audiobook. Finally finished it at the beginning of December. I ultimately gave it 2 stars. There was so much to process and it was anticlimactic for me. I loved it in places and I was engrossed in the story, and other times I felt forced in maintaining my focus. I was hoping for more but it just never lived up to the hype for me. I wasn't really a fan of the film either, although I did like the casting choices.
