Mallory Oooh, I'm excited about this one!

Michele Sicotte | 12 comments For a current Irish writer, I love Roddy Doyle and my favorite is "Paddy Clark ha ha ha." Paddy is an Irish lad who rampages through the streets of Barrytown with a pack of like-minded hooligans, playing cowboys and Indians, etching their names in wet concrete, and setting fires. Paddy Clarke and his friends are not bad boys; they're just a little bit restless. They're always taking sides, bullying each other, and secretly wishing they didn't have to. All they want is for something--anything--to happen.

Natalie | 1 comments I LOVED In the Woods and the second Dublin Murder Squad book, The Likeness. Eventually I will get around to Faithful Place!

Donna | 5 comments I loved The Commitments movie, too! I like the authors Maeve Binchy and Marian Keyes. Their characters are down-to-earth, quirky and usually possess a keen sense of humor. They sometimes suffer from gritty, contemporary problems (especially Keyes's) such as alcoholism, domestic abuse, etc. but with the help of friends, family, and their own sense of humor, they prevail. The close-knit sense of community and the famous Irish (often dark) sense of humor are what stand out to me as favorite elements from these two authors.

Peggy | 5 comments So I read Borderlands by Brian McGilloway. It was a mystery and talked about the land some, but not as much as I would have liked. It was interesting to see the different words used for like detective-inspector.
It was alittle hard to follow at first but all in all a good book!

Mallory A little late getting to this, but I intend to start "Scarlet Feather" by Maeve Binchy this rainy weekend!

Marlene | 6 comments Wow, already it is April Fool's Day, but I want to post that I enjoyed March's idea and I listened to Jan Karon's In the Company of Others. It was fun to get into the Irish lilt in March and one of the best things about listening on DVD was the beautiful Irish music that was added to this title. The violin soloist in the story line was enhanced by the violinist on the DVD. This title was like a little vacation to Ireland.

Mallory It is nearly the end of April and I finally finished up "Scarlet Feather" this beautiful weekend. It's about two young people and their brand-new catering company, following them through one New Year's Eve to the next and all their personal and business-related trials throughout that year. What I liked best about the setting was because it was in and around Dublin, I could visualize many of the places and towns mentioned from my summer there five years ago. The story gave off a small-town, small-country vibe, as so many of the characters and their storylines intertwine. You felt like it was a place where everybody knows everybody, and that's both a good and bad thing!
