Kelly Bulkley | 20 comments Anyone here able to give me some non Ya recommendations. I'm new to good reads so I don't really know where to ask, I'm not to happy with the recommendations they have been giving me.
I'm not a big Sci fi or fantasy person.

If this post is not okay I will find out how to delete it.

thank you for your help.

message 2: by Miguel (new)

Miguel Vega Hi! Not really sure what makes a book YA, but books I have enjoyed (and I'm 19, so we're good) are "To Kill A Mockingbird", "Catcher in the Rye", "Valley of the Dolls"***, and "The Fault in Our Stars". They are easy to read and valley of the Dolls is just Ahhh! lol

message 3: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Bulkley | 20 comments Miguel ah thank you I've read all of those except valley of the dolls looking it up right now. I have nothing against YA I feel like I just read most of them super fast haha I'm looking for a book I won't finish in like 1 or 2 sittings haha something that might challenge me. Also since I'm not in high school I find it hard to read books about highschool. Maybe there are some YA that I didn't read that aren't too young I might enjoy I just feel like recently some feel to young for me. thanks for your help!

message 4: by Miguel (new)

Miguel Vega Oh I get you, and I personally don't know what makes a book YA, like seriously other than they're in high school so I get confused when people bring it up haha! Valley of the Dolls is really interesting! About 3 women who take"dolls"/pills in order to make it in Hollywood, but like the inside poem says, sometimes it's more fun to start the journey rather than to get to the top when you're all alone. Really good read and more adult than YA. Also, "the Outsiders" is really good, not sure if you've read it.

message 5: by Morgan (new)

Morgan Blanch (hopelessbookaddict) Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series is a great adult paranormal series. Start with Slave to Sensation.
If you're more into a contemporary setting J. Lynn's Wait for You series (New Adult) is awesome.
Otherwise I say Brandon Sanderson. But he writes pretty high/epic fantasy stuff.
Hope that helps some!

message 6: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Bulkley | 20 comments thanks everyone looking up all those books now. An Miguel I'm pretty sure I read the outsiders in high school but I don't really remember it, I think I might read it again

message 7: by Gina (new)

Gina | 25 comments Have you read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon yet? It's amazing and an Adult book :-)
It took me over a month to finish it (but maybe I'm just a slow reader... :D ) I think you might enjoy it

message 8: by Aadivah (new)

Aadivah You can try Amour Amour by Becca & Krista Ritchie, it's entertaining and fun. And anything by Colleen Hoover but be advised, her books usually give you and emotional punch.

message 9: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Bulkley | 20 comments haha Gina actually I am currently reading it off and on, it's taken me a little while to get into it. but I'm trying so hard I'm like 100 pages in haha

Yep, totally understand that :D I read about 4 pages and half an hour is over and I'm like "What?!"
But it's worth it in the end...
Have you watched the TV show?

message 11: by Angel (new)

Angel Warner | 11 comments I'm really into memoirs lately like A Work in Progress by Connor Franta and American Sniper by Chris Kyle. I recommend both of those tremedously. I also really enjoyed Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, it was amazing! You should check out my book blog, I post really often and it might give you some ideas on what to read. That's how I get most of my book recommendations is by watching book tubers and reading book blogs. Mine is angelsbookishblog.blogspot.com

message 12: by Jane (new)

Jane (scribblerjane) Hi Kelly,

If you are in the mood for adult contemporary, try Sophie Kennsilla's stand alone novels. (I'm probably butchering her last name). My favorites are Can You Keep a Secret and I Have Got You Number. These two are funny and cute.

Depending on how adult you want your books, for paranormal I would suggest the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh.

I know a lot more genres. But here is a few general favs most people like.

message 13: by Amanda (new)

Amanda I think some good reads are:
All the light we cannot see
Cathedral del mar (by falcones something)
Jean M Auels series about the cavebear clan
Game of thrones
Tell the wolves I'm home
Outlander
Carlos Ruiz Zafons books

(I don't know what genres you're into tho)
