Brendan Welcome to the Unpulped goodreads group. Thank you all to those that were able to make Unpulped's very first meeting! Maybe I'm biased but I think you all made it a wonderful and fun first meeting. I look forward to seeing this club go forward.

For those that might read this who missed our first meeting but are joining us after a later meeting, welcome!

Feel free to use the goodreads group to discuss our monthly book before we meet. Also you're welcome to use it as a place to suggest books (or movies or tv shows) or program ideas.

This is your club, if there's something you want to do or try please feel free to throw it out there!

Jess (alleycatastrophe) Hi there,

I saw your flyer up at Mucho Mas and thought the group looked interesting. I'm an English teacher who recently moved to La Porte. I'm not sure if I could have the entire "book of the month" done by the 10th, but I would still be interesting in attending. Is there anything I should know about the group?

Brendan Jessica, welcome! There's not much you need to know other than we're there to have fun, meet new people, and explore some books. No one is required to read all of the book each month. It's always acceptable to read as much as you like and put the book down if you're not feeling it. Even if you can't fit in any reading you're still welcome to come if you're interested in hear opinions. Also once the talk of the book is dried up people are welcome to stick around and discuss anything.

This months read also lends itself to not having to finish because you can easily just discuss the short stories you did read, I'd doubt we'd know if you didn't get to them all.

Bill (skeletongue) | 9 comments Hi Jessica!

You should drop by the group next month, the more the merrier! We're reading John Ronson's The Psychopath Test this month, it's pretty wry and entertaining and a fairly quick read (or an even quicker listen, the author reads the audiobook himself and is pretty humorous in a British comedy sort of way). He reports in a funny, conversational tone that's very engaging and I'm sure the subjects going to start some hilarious and revealing discussion next month.

I see you read some great graphic novels too. La Porte also hosts the only graphic novel discussion group in the area, it's called The Panel and you can check out its page here on Goodreads, it meets next Wednesday at 6 and it would be great to add another opinion to the discussion. We're discussing Solo next week, a collection of short stories by some top notch DC/Vertigo creators. Because of its size no one was urged to read the whole thing, just to pick out a couple of the stories that appealed the most to discuss. There's even a cool Neil Gaiman piece in there. If you're interested it would be great to meet you and add your voice to the discussion.

Anyway, nice to meet you, maybe we'll see you sometime in the future.

Jess (alleycatastrophe) Thank you! I'm sorry I missed Thursday's meeting. I've come down with the flu. I actually ended up reading most of "You Wouldn't Understand, Anyway." I definitely plan to attend in the future (barring random illness) and the graphic novel discussion seems right up my alley!

Brendan Bill didn't mention it but The Panel meets at the library not out in the community. I hope you can make it this wednesday we're always happy to have new people join!

Jess (alleycatastrophe) This Wednesday? Nooo, I have parent-teacher conferences! I will eventually make it to something.

Brendan Unlucky! We'll The Panel meets every third Wednesday and I'll be posting the next book we'll be reading on The Panel's Goodreads page, hopefully you can join us next month (for both clubs)!
