Chapters 11 - 20 Discussion Questions:
(1) How has your feelings about Chaol and Aelin's relationship changed?
(2) Describe what you were feeling and thinking when you read the scene where Aelin saved Aedion?
(3) Aelin looked like she was about to killevil Dorian. Do you think she would've been able to go through with it had Nesryn not stopped her?
(4) What do you think about Aelin and Lysandra teaming up?
(5) How do you feel about Manon's point of view so far -- and the resurfacing of Elide?
Remember that you don't have to answer these questions if you don't want to! And if you have any questions that you'd like to add, you are more than welcome! Thank you :D

1) Aelin. I’m really liking her attitude and determination in this book. Like, she’s finally realized what needs to be done and will stop at nothing to accomplish it. I feel like I still see that attitude and swagger that Celaena had and I’m glad that she hasn’t lost that. But, as per usual, i'm still disappointed that she's not more focused on Dorian. He's your FRIEND Aelin. You save your friends from soul-sucking demons, remember?
2) Manon. Things are heating up on this front. I am VERY suspicious about these “plans” with the breeding of Valg and Witches. I mean, that’s a terrible idea if I’ve ever heard one. I do like that we are seeing a little bit of Manon getting…I don’t know exactly how to word it. But I liked the parts where it almost seemed like she missed Asterion. And she took the time to talk with Elide and I don’t know what I’m trying to say. I guess it’s just that Manon never acts like I expect her to. And I love that she is questioning the way things are and what she’s being told to do. The way that Manon and Ghislaine were talking makes it sound like the Valg are not something the Manon or the Thirteen want here either. It kind of makes me think that they could be potential allies, since they don’t seem to like what’s going on either.
3) Lysandra. I love her SO MUCH. Everyone needs girlfriends, and it’s nice that Aelin can have that again. She hasn’t really had someone like that since Nehemia. I’m pleasantly surprised by her character. Just from the way Sarah Maas was describing Lyandra’s look on her face or attitude, it painted such a similar picture to how she used to describe Celaena. Just from what she was saying when they were talking in the 2nd half of chap.13, she reminded me so much of Celaena. I can just see them sitting around eating chocolate and plotting deaths. Did you guys feel the same way? I love where her character is going and I can’t wait to see more of her.
4) Chaol. I feel bad, because I’ve loved Chaol from the beginning. But, he seems different to me. Things really heated up in chapter 14 when he made a comment about making sure that Aedion was found if she did anything to Dorian. I feel like (and it even says) that Chaol is trying intentionally to be a jerk. He’s going out of his way to be rude and make Aelin angry and it’s not fair taking things out on her. (You’re right Anjie. There’s a complete lack of ANY communication between these two and It’s driving me nuts)
5) Back to Aelin again. She got so angry at Chaol in chap. 14 and while I’m not glad that they’re angry at each other, I just LOVED Aelin’s response. I love it when she gets serious like that and gosh it’s just so badass.
6) The rescue. It was executed perfectly. (oops. Bad choice of words. Lol) I just love scenes like that and my heart was literally pounding. I love how Aelin acted like this little shy apprentice dancer and I DIED when she started crying because the other girl “hit” her. I was surprised at the moment between Florine and Aelin and she seems like a nice lady. Too bad she probably died. I am SO GLAD that everything worked out good. Also, this line at the end of chap.17 is great “Aedion grinned at his queen as the entire world went to hell”. It just seems special because imagine how it must have felt for him to see Aelin again and to know that she was there to rescue him.
7) Evil Dorian. (sorry. That’s just what he is now in my mind. Because let’s face it, he’s certainly NOT Dorian Dorian.) I did NOT expect for them to run into him in the gardens. OH CRAP. When she turns around and he says “Going somewhere?” I mean, geez that’s like a classic villain line straight out of a movie. But, it’s also hilarious because that’s so not Dorian. I kept thinking that Dorian would break through and give her some kind of sign that he’s still in there (because I know he is) There’s still hope for Dorian and I know they’ll find a way out for him. Also, my heart breaks during Dorian’s POVs. “The demon made him sit on a dais, on a throne beside a crowned woman who had not noticed that the thing using his mouth wasn’t the person who had been born of her flesh.” Imagine what it must be like to be trapped by a demon inside your own body and be trying to cry out for help. And have your mother –YOUR MOTHER- not even realize that you’ve been possessed by a demon. That this isn’t HER SON.
8) Sam. Is it not tragic when the other half of your ship is dead? WHY DO YOU DO THIS, SARAH? I’ve already experienced so many emotional moments in this book. But I died on page 119 when she was thinking how she loved Sam more than she’d ever loved anyone. AND SHE WEARS HIS CLOTHES TO BED. *SOBBING*
9) Chaolaena. I don’t know what to say about them at this point. Every time they have an encounter, it’s seriously painfull. I think they need a good long talk. Yet, I feel like Dorian is the only one who could get them to resolve most of their issues. I still love them and I wish things could be different. But as it is, major things need to change between them.
I did nine bullet points last time, so I’ll try to limit myself to that. Or else we might be here all day. Question though. Anjie, you said “How do you feel about Manon's point of view so far -- and the resurfacing of Elide?” Elide was in the books before? Sorry, it’s just that there’s so many things in these books and I can’t possibly remember them all. Did she know Aelin before? I need a refresher.
Also, to answer some of your questions:
1: I refuse to talk further about Chaolena because I’m going through emotional turmoil right now. Thanks.
2: YEEEES YEEEEEES AELIN YOU’RE SO BADASS. *jumping up and down**pumping fists in the air*
3: That’s a tricky question. I think that she truly wants to because she views it as a mercy because she knows what he’s going through. But if she did, I don’t think she’d ever be able to live with herself. Basically, she feels bad NOT killing him, but would feel worse if she DID kill him. It’s time for plan C: RESCUE!
4: SO MUCH AWESOMENESS. I CAN’T EVEN HANDLE IT. (and of course she can be trusted)
5: Manon’s POV is definitely getting better (thank goodness) (also, see question above about Elide) because my feelings were “wait…..resurfacing??”
I'm at work so I'll reply in full later but Elide was in HoF during Celaena's flashbacks. They used to "play" with each other because their moms were best friends. Elide is Lady Marion's daughter (the one who sacrificed her life for Aelin). They thought Elide died along with her dad.

1) Honestly, I shipped them so hard in Crown of Midnight, but that ship has long dissolved since Rowan paraded into Aelin's life in Heir of Fire *swoons* That man... And as for Chaol and Aelin right now? I'm baffled! They are like a cat and a dog! And I am terribly appalled with the way Chaol is acting... Absolutely appalled and very sad. *sheds a tear*
2) THE FEELS WERE SO REAL. Every since Aedion was first introduced, I fell in love with him and fell inlove with his relationship with Aelin. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. DAMN THAT WAS SUCH A GOOD SCENE. YES YES. And Aelin was totally badass in that scene. Of course, I wish that we could have seen them fight and be badasses together. Oh I would have melted!
3) Holy crap, I was so scared! I was like, PLEASE DONT KILL HIM YET, WAIT UNTIL YOU RELEASE THE MAGIC BACK INTO THE WORLD OR SOMETHING. I feel like she would have said "damn it all to hell, Dorian's gone anyway" and done it. But if that happened... who knows how the story would have unfolded...
4) I am liking this new female friendship! I feel this sense of trust with Lysandra, I mean, they both seem to have gone through so much crap in their time growing up, so I can see them being a pretty formidable female pair! I'm shipping their friendship.
5) I love Manon. She's so awesome. I adore the POV. Sometimes I crave it! ITS THE BEST.I lierally shouted "ELIDE!" and gasped when she was introduced. And witchblood? Thats so interesting...

YEAH! So much stuff has happened and it's so crazy! I can't believe everything that's already happened and we're not even halfway through the book yet haha.
So far, Aedion's rescue scene has been my favorite! How he instantly knew it was Aelin when she entered the ballroom and just how accepting they are of each other of all the depravity. It was really refreshing and when Aedion was like, "You are worth it." I was crying so hard. Aelin really needed that unfaltering acceptance from someone of her court.
I think that really, Aelin didn't have the heart to kill Dorian and I still don't think she does. She's all talk when it comes down to it. Her brain and her heart are like at a disconnect because she knows she needs to put him down (logically) but she loves Dorian too much and that scene just broke my heart and the scene when Dorian wished she killed him, ugh this is the book of feels. Like I'm dying with every Dorian point of view and he can't remember his name or anyones. And when his dad tried to make him remember Aelin's name, he fought not to *cries an ocean*
I'm really liking Lysandra! I think that Aelin needs more girlfriends haha I can't wait until Elide and Manon come to her side. If Manon sides with her haha they would make a great Alliance!
As for the Chaelin ship, I couldn't be happier LOL

I love that she's full Aelin but seriously ... how chapters does it take for Aelin to get off her butt and rescue Dorian. I can't take anymore of his depressing scenes
Yeah I'm finally starting to warm up to Manon's point of view in this book! Her storyline, intertwined with Elide and Kaltain, is getting very heated. I'm glad we're seeing what the king is planning over at Morath (lol reminds me of Mordor ... any Lord of the Rings fan?)
I'm really surprised with how much I like Lysandra haha and Aedion's rescue was just perfect. I loved the plan and everything. I was like HA! In your face king! I would have loved to read that scene in his POV too haha and then Dorian popping up, kill me now lol
As for Chaol, I understand why he isn't like himself. I mean look at what he went through in CoM, HoF, and now. Seeing that happen to your best friend/soul brother is bound to harden you. I think he's just having misplaced anger issues. He wants to blame everything on Aelin because it wasn't until she came that things started to go downhill. What I think he's missing is that he, too, is at fault. He didn't choose a side early enough and gotten Dorian out before the king killed Sorscha. Internally he's dealing with a lot of regret and guilt and it's easier to blame someone than yourself. So I understand his actions, do I like it? Absolutely not, that boy better shut his face lol
Oh yeah ... like how come the mom doesn't notice what happened to Dorian?!?! Like um hello lol he's no longer your son. Even guards notice it and btw I love that REss and Brullo are working with Chaol!
And for Chaolaena/Chaelin ... good riddance. I'm glad that ship is sinking lol XD sorry
