I'm not sure where to post this, but I'm 75% into the first book of this epic series. I'm reading Assassin's Apprentice
. I'm listening to it in audio and enjoying. I plan to listen to the next 2 as well. Not sure of the exact order as it's listed differently in different places.

Hi, Crystal. The Realm of the Elderlings can seem pretty daunting when you're first getting started. There are three trilogies, a quartet, and a trilogy in progress (the second book of the trilogy came out a few months ago). In addition to the trilogies and quartet, there are several short stories set in the Realm, some of which are available as ebooks and some which may only be available in print. This is a reliable list:

Matthew, Thanks much! I've read quite a few reviews and I'm thinking for now, I may just want to stick to books that are about Fitz. Is that okay to do? Or, will I be lost in Tawny Man Series if I don't read the Liveship Series?

The books on Fitz are extremely good! Some of my favorites. I would suggest the following reading order:
The Farseer Trilogy
The Liveship Traders Trilogy
The Tawny Man Trilogy
The Rain Wild Chronicles
The Fitz and the Fool Trilogy - 2 books published so far.
I would strongly suggest reading ALL the books and in the correct order, otherwise you might miss lots of details. And you won't be sorry for reading them, the Liveships Trilogy is one of my favorites. Its a fantastic world that Robbin Hobb has created - a must must must read.
Enjoy the read! Its quite the journey ;)

There are details in all the books that run over into the next books. It won't be the end of the world if you skip Tawny man, but you are going to miss out on lots of cool details. Lots of happenings from the Liveship Traders run over into the Tawny man and I absolutely loved it.
Let me know what you decide ;)
Enjoy!
Thank you very much Mariettedr. I copied and saved the list and I will go ahead and read them all in order.
I wish I can read these books for the first time again. Ah! It was just so flippin good. Robin Hobb writes long and takes her time building up to events, but its worth it every time.
Let me know what you've thought of the books as you read them.
Enjoy ;)
I just finished book 1 Assassin's Apprentice. I gave it 4 stars for the story and 4 stars narration. I enjoyed it very much and am on hold with my library for the audiobook of book 2 Royal Assassin

Trying to read liveships now would IMO be disruptive in the narrative. It is not essential to have read them to understand tawny man.

No worries Hannah, I am currently reading the first book of the Tawny Man trilogy :DCouldn't get enough of the realm of the elderling...
