Congrats Desiree! You are now a co-moderator with me :D Do you have any ideas to improve the group? Maybe know how to get more members to join?

Something to brainstorm nonetheless. Maybe do something fun weekly maybe a prompt. Or there was this thing I saw in Scriptfrenzy an adopt a character thread that was cute. where if people have character but not a story they put them in the thread. just a couple of ideas.

What is the adopt a character thread? That sounds interesting.

It is like let's say I have created this awesome character in my mind. Maybe a cocky guy Irish accent but I just can't for the life of me think of a story to write around him. Then you have a writer writing an awesome steam punk story about a air ship but can't think of a character to play the captain. So they would go to adopt a character would see the ad foe my foul mouth Irishman looking for a story and think he would be perfect for her airship captain. She would contact me and say hey I want to adopt your character for the piece I'm working on and I say great he's all yours. It is just a fun thing and you can do the same things with plots props and even an adopt a cowriter. It is kind of a concept barroowed with my own twist and will need to be beta tested but just a fun way for writers to help other writers.

I like it! It is unique and fun! We will definitely add this to the group. I will make an Adoptions folder now. Any other ideas?

I have to go through some of my archives on that one. I also think maybe something like a snaps thread. Where if we have a group member that got published or just anything good happening they can brag about it and we can give them snaps.

That's a great idea.

I really like Desiree's ideas, especially the Adopt a Character thread, I've seen those work really well in other groups as well as on other sites.

What about a folder for pictures. Sort of like a Writing Photo/Quote of the week folder where people can post pictures that inspire them or that they like that are related to writing?

I am going through and pinning the "About this Folder" threads to the top of the discussions, as it should be the first thing people see in each folder, and otherwise, once many threads are created, it would be pushed to the bottom where no one could see it. Also, with these threads, I think the Mods should be the only people to post in them; they are for rules only, and it should say that anyone who wants to post in it should create a thread, or we will create one for them. This is what I have seen in other groups and it has worked quite well.

For example, the Novel Promotion folder; Codi should have her own thread, probably just titled "Codi's Writing" or the title of her story, or something similar, for her to post there, and then as more people want to talk about their writing, they start threads of their own.

What if we combined the Ask an Author, Novel Promotion, and other threads related to author's into one folder called "Author's Corner" with each of those as threads inside the one folder?

That works for me :) Great idea!

I'm torn; should novel promotion be it's own folder or part of Author's corner? Because if it's part of author's corner, 1: it would only be for published/publishing authors, and 2: we couldn't do the individual threads for each author. Also, if we just had a promotions folder, could we include people who aren't published, so everyone can....

wait! changed my mind/new idea. We could keep the Novel Promotions as part of the Author's Corner folder for published authors just to comment what they have published, when they are publishing and new folder, etc. just to promote it as it says, then we have a separate folder titled "Member Writing" or something similar, where everyone (even unpublished) can share their writing in their own personal thread. (i.e. I would have a thread titled Jane's Writing where I would post my writing). They could post links to their writing on other sides (such as Wattpad or Booksie) or links to their writing on their own profiles on Goodreads, or they could post their writing directly into the thread, and then they could get feedback for whatever they posted.

Opinions?

I like that idea. Members Writing should be a folder.

I love the new ideas. I think this place should be a fun close knit community that support one another and I thing this group has a lot of potential to become that.

Some more ideas.

1. I would like to add a "Chat" thread to the "General" folder, for people to go and just chat, say hi, talk about how their day was, what they are working on, etc. just general chat about anything that doesn't matter if they go off topic.

2. I would like to create a Reader's Corner juts like Author's Corner to combine the Monthly Reads discussions/voting, What Are You Currently Reading, and other similar threads into one reading related folder.

3. A question for Greensparkjp: what exactly was the purpose of the topics Dystopian and Realistic Fiction??

I don't really know. I originally was going to make this a book club type group, but I changed it to this bcuz there are plenty book club groups. you can get rid of them if you want. Sorry for the late response, I've been very busy lately.

not a problem, they just seem sort of random, as if they should belong somewhere, and there wasn't really any sort of description of what they were for. Is it okay if I rearrange them?

oh! I finally figured out what to do with the threads! I'm going to turn your dystopian thread into a Writing Questions Thread (name may be changed); we have a questions thread about the group, what about a questions thread for random questions people have about reading and writing and such?

so what's going on with the book of the month, should we just wait until we get more members?

nobody's really participating with the group as a whole right now, we need to get more people to join the group otherwise we won't get much participation. I was thinking about posting in the group Struggling Writers about our group maybe in a chat thread, because it seems to be quite a popular group. it wouldn't hurt, right?
