Jane | 9 comments As part of my #Read26Indy, my goal is to seek out Indiana authors, or books set in or about Indiana. I'm looking for suggestions on good books that are written by people who live in Indiana, are set in Indiana, or are about something Indiana-related. Fiction, non-fiction, biography, history, I'm open to all of it.

So far, I've read:
-The Last Policeman by Ben H. Winters (set in the New England area, but the author is local), and I plan to read the sequel
-The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (set in Indianapolis and an Indiana author)
-You Came Back by Christopher Coake (partially set in Indiana, mostly in Ohio)
-I'm currently reading XVI by Julia Karr, an Indiana author
-I plan to read Ashfall by Mike Mullins, an Indiana author

I'll fess up that I've never read any Vonnegut so I need to get some of his work on my list as well.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Michael Brockley | 171 comments I can't think of what Theodore Dreisser wrote off hand but, yes, him too.

James Brigham | 22 comments I enjoyed a horror story written by Michael West a few years back called The Wide Game. A fairly spooky novel. I see he's since set several more novels in the same fictional Indiana town.

I found Meredith Nicholson's House of a Thousand Candles to be a cool vintage Hoosier read.

Michael Brockley | 171 comments For some reason, your post reminds me of an another Hoosier book, "Raintree County" by Ross Lockridge, Jr. Elizabeth Taylor starred in a movie that was based on this novel, I haven't read the book or seen the movie but I have the book on my Kindle. Maybe I'll tackle it sometime this year.

Kris (twicetwins1) | 5 comments To add to Michael's list, Haven Kimmel (pen name) also wrote a "sequel" of sorts She Got Up Off the Couch: And Other Heroic Acts from Mooreland, Indiana. It's not as much about Haven as it is about her mother . . . how her mother pulled herself out of poverty and an housewife with few skills and made something of herself and the sacrifices she made to do that. Her mother, Mrs. Delonda (Jarvis) Hartmann, was my middle school English teacher almost 30 years ago!

Melyssa Hubbard | 2 comments You might want to check out my new book published by IBJ, "Spanking City Hall". It was published in March 2014. It's getting pretty good reader reviews and critics liked it.

The book is set in Indianapolis and includes scenes set at Holcomb Gardens, Meridian Kessler Neighborhood, City Hall, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Mass Avenue, Broad Ripple, Fountain Square and Riley's Tomb.

I give book club discounts when you buy five or more copies direct from me.

Next book signings:
July 30 @ 5pm - Indy Reads
August 1 @ 6pm - The Art Bank's Book Nook on Mass Ave.
