Diana says it was an homage to old-fashioned romantic suspense. I can assure OctoberCountry that there was no explicit sex in the book, nothing more on page than kisses and sleeping chastely in the same bed. The romance aspect, as I told OctoberCountry after reading the first half, used the standard terms and tropes that were so very familiar to me. I've read a *lot* of straight romances, starting in my mid-teens. So, nothing new on the romance front if you've read het romance. Although I will say that the female protagonist stood up for herself. Some straight romance novels have the heroine being a complete doormat, and this was happily not the case in this book. There is a line thought by the female protagonist that the male protagonist was neither married nor gay. If you like old-fashioned het romantic suspense, I recommend this book.
