Howdy Guys,

I dont want to get all mixed up with the new an different types of canons. Right now I want to only read what Disney and What Lucas has decided is actual canon.

Would anyone know a list of the actual canon books out there that is FIRST Canon, and SECOND good to read?

I recommend Dark Disciple, A New Dawn, and Lost Stars (young adult) the most.

Others in the new canon are Tarkin, Heir to the Jedi, Lords of the Sith, and Aftermath.

Just to clarify, George Lucas no longer has oversight of Star Wars. Lucasfilm is the company name, but it is Kathleen Kennedy who is running it now.

I don't think there's any other canon stuff than novelisations of the movies and those are BORING.
The Thrawn-Trilogy was a quite good take at episode 7-9, but they're not going with that storyline :/

The only Star Wars book I ever read was Splinter of the Mind's Eye by Alan Dean Foster. I loved it and stayed up all night to read it when I was a teenager.

I'll second Splinter of the Mind's Eye - great story.

Quite enjoyed Rogue Planet by Greg Bear, too.

The implied romance between Luke and Leia made this a really uncomfortable re-read last year. I guess this did not bother me the first time I read this back in the 70's but the Star War universe has changed since then. YMMV but this is not one I can recommend. I really enjoyed Star Wars: Kenobi if you want to read a non-canon story.

From memory, it came out before the uncomfortable revelations of brother/sisterhood in The Empire Strikes Back. I remember really enjoying it as a story, and feeling somewhat nonplussed when the next movie came out!

Ack! One of the publishers just uploaded their entire Star Trek extended universe tie-in novel backlist to GooglePlay. All, like, 600 titles :-P Now you can't find anything there except Star Trek. Good for Trekkies, not so good if you want to find some other science fiction novel.

I second the vote for Lost Stars ! It was the first Star Wars book I'd read in ages and it was so much fun to re-visit that universe, especially back before The Force Awakens was released (there are some parts in the book that tie in directly with the movie). It's marketed as YA but it can definitely be enjoyed by SW fans of any age. I actually wrote a fairly lengthy review over on my blog.

And while it's probably been 10 years since I've read them, I remember really enjoying Tatooine Ghost and the Young Jedi Knights series.

I've read 23 Star Wars books. (Only some listed on my goodreads lists.)

My favorites, so far, are probably Darth Plagueis (James Luceno) and the Darth Bane trilogy (Drew Karpyshyn). The Aftermath trilogy (Chuck Wendig) is really good too.

Star Wars books can vary considerably, it all depend on the [many] different authors: Some are really good, others are trash. You learn to recognize the good writters.
