At first, it seems as though it's all going to be great fun; but the fun before long becomes furious & life on the island turns into a nightmare of panic & death. As ordinary standards of behavior collapse, the whole world the boys know collapses with them—the world of cricket & homework & adventure stories—& another world is revealed beneath, primitive & terrible. Lord of the Flies remains as provocative today as when it was 1st published in 1954, igniting passionate debate with its startling, brutal portrait of human nature. Though critically acclaimed, it was largely ignored upon its initial publication. Yet soon it became a cult favorite among both students and literary critics who compared it to J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye in its influence on modern thought & literature. Chapter three - (view spoiler)[i hate Ralph and how he antagonises "Piggy" when he told him not to use that. Now everyone uses it and he also treats him like dirt. Weird vibes from the choir kids especially jack who seems keen on killing a pig (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 8
(view spoiler)[confused as to what the Thing is and why the boys are so scared of it. They're all being so stupid wanting to be the leader when none of them can actually lead and end up pointing fingers to whose fault it is when things don't go according to plan (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 10 (view spoiler)[What the heck? They killed Simon?? I didn't get the scene where there were flies around the pig's head and it was referred to as the Lord of the Flies. Is this some symbolism? I really don't know (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11 (view spoiler)[WTH?? "Which is better- to be a pack of painted niggers like you are, or to be sensible like Ralph is" (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 4 (view spoiler)[ I am kind of bored by the whole 'oh let's describe the whole island before the interesting stuff start happening' but guy got a nobel so I am guessing there is something to this story (hide spoiler)]

Guy got a Nobel but I really disliked this book. It's too crazy for me

(view spoiler)[Darn Piggy had to go but Ralph survives? He's really lucky that naval officer got to him before the kids did, otherwise he would've suffered the same fate as Piggy and Simon. Those kids are a bunch of crazy murderers. What a sudden ending. All I thought was 'finally it's over' (hide spoiler)]

I thought it was gonna be like the 100 or hunger games but no comparison...
Do you have any good suggestion for something classic with a bit of action ? (Fave:To kill a mockingbird)

I thought so too. I don't read many classics so I can't help you there :p I loved to kill a mockingbird too! :)

I'm sorry that you guys didn't enjoy this book. I have it on hold and I haven't gotten it yet. Since you are dropping it Lydia, I might as well just not try to get the book..

Alright Christina. It is frustrating when people don't return their library books on time.. So when you have a hold on them you have to wait and wait.. I'm so behind :(

This seems like kids books I read in primary school where they would all somehow figure out how to survive until they’re rescued but I don’t think that’s gonna happen this time. (hide spoiler)]

yes. they seem like they don't care about the rules. they are almost extremely aggravating. If i was in the situation. It would be annoying when I am trying to say something

They are all quite young so I dont know how smart I was at that age. They seem to be doing ok but Jack and Ralph have just kinda taken over. That would annoy me

Chapter 5
(view spoiler)[ It was gonna descend into chaos at some point. Everything was fragile. I don’t like Jack. He’s a bit of a bully and doesn’t really think about anyone else. A few more of the older ones should be able to think through things properly.
I think there is really some kind of beast as well. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9
(view spoiler)[ not really sure what happened there. I’m guessing the boys killed Simon? So they were all projecting the fear of a beast onto the dead guy with the parachute but the beast they were all really afraid of is themselves? Dunno how they are gonna deal with what they’ve done. They need to reinstate order and rules to continue functioning as a community. (hide spoiler)]

It was enjoyable but it wasn’t amazing or anything. The style reminded me of the kind of books I read in primary school but had much darker parts so it’s almost difficult to see what audience the book is targeted at. I would’ve liked more story past where it ended to find out what happened next. I still want to know where they were going in the first place to end up on the island.
