I arrange my books author wise, by genre and height. I hate it when you buy a serie and the books dont match in length. But never by color. I cant stand see series or an author be seperated:)
Even I arrange my books author-wise, and genre-wise. I hate it too when books in a series don't match in length or even cover. But then, I don't even have that many series so that's not an issue...even I can't stand having series and authors separated >.<
Arrange books? Do people actually do that?My shelves are more or less random. Only semi order is that books I love and re read often are close at hand. Books I've read and didn't particularly like are out of reach or buried at the back somewhere.
Genre, Author, Series, Size. They get disorganized sometimes from pulling out a couple books for a reading queue, lending books, and/or getting new books so I periodically reorganize them as best as space allows.
Mostly by size, as i have a bookshelf that consist of multi-sized boxes, some small, some big, square, rectangle ... so i cant arrange them all according to author, genre...
I hate to say it , but not organized! Not enough book shelves. I do keep my cozy mysteries together because they are mostly series. But I just place my favorites or ones I'm reading on my desk..somewhere. LOL
All by size then the ones I plan to read next go to a stack at the front of the shelf. The stack could be re-arranged a few times before I decide on what to read next.
My books are arrange alphabetically by author. If I have more than one book by an author, then they are arranged by release date. I am completely anal retentive about this. My music and movies are arranged the same way, all alphabetically.
I arrange my books by size, height and partly genres.Cause, you know, you can't put an Encyclopedia in the magazines section.
By genre, then by author last nameI have them separated by -
Mystery and suspense, Gothic, Young Adult, Children, Superhero novels and comics/graphic novels, random nonfiction and misc, herbals (nonfiction), horror and thrillers, general fiction-dramas-classics, romance (separated by harlequin, then contemporary, then historical)
On bookshelf by itself have urban fantasy with fantasy (random) and paranormal, including PNR and YA
In middle shelf have Sci-fi/high fantasy together, above that Hard Case Crime collection together, and above that some random classics
I try to keep same authors together with their series in order. My grandkids like to mess up my shelves. I really dont have enough bookshelves. I have paperbacks in boxes And even a bag full. My bed is covered with library books in to-be-read piles according to the due date, andOften I renew the books and CD audiobooks if they dont get read by the due date!
I have one bookshelf in my den with cozy mysteries. All of my other books are in stacks on the floor in different rooms. I try to give some away. But most I keep because I haven't read, I am a book hoarder!!
I had to go threw the stacks of books to find one book and knocked them all over!! Against my hanging blinds!!Now the blinds are all crooked. I need a book shelf!!!
Oh thats annoying. I got a bookshelf a couple weeks ago from thrift store for 8 bucks. I am going to go look for another one today. I have a 700 sq ft apt thats going to have wall to wall books soon. I sure wish I had a tablet or kindle.
I have one but don't use it. From Hubby gift for Christmas. I just love paper books. But today I was on my hands and knees looking for a book I know I have.. around here somewhere. 3 rooms of somewhere. Maybe tomorrow it will appear in front of me.
I have three bookshelves. one I keep by my bed. It has books I long to finish. Another has my childhood books on it. my last one has my favorite authors and series books I have to finish. My books used to be in alphabetical order, and hard back then paper back. Now they are just generalized. My tablet and kindle books are in no order. I am also getting a built in reading nook when my basement is finished it will have plenty of shelves for new and old books!
The large bookcase in my den consists of seven shelves.Top shelf: Non-fiction books (Total: 32)
2nd., 3rd. & 4th. shelves: Fiction (Total: 70)
5th. shelf - audio books on CD (1 non-fiction & 8 fiction)
6th. & 7th. shelves: Movies on DVD (Total: 108)
Books (print & audio) are arranged alphabetically by author.
All movies on DVD are arranged alphabetically by title.
Well, with more than 700 books in the house I need some sort of system, otherwise I would never find anything. I tried shelving by genre, but that didn't really work as some books can fit under more than 1 genre, so now I shelf by author's last name.I have one shelf for A, one for B, one for C, etc. So 26 shelves in all, with books stacking 3 deep on some of them...

i arrange by genre, then by author, which has lots of crossovers when an author writes historical fiction, contemporary fiction and poetry. but....mostly, I have all my mytholog together, fantasy novels together, historical fiction together, poetry and so on...by author
Hi! It is very satisfying to arrange books like precious items in your home. The best way to arrange books is to sort them first subject wise and then as per the sub-category or genre. Besides, it is important to keep the aesthetics of the book-shelf into consideration. Arranging books as per colour and height factors would create beauty in the personal library. Of course, certain disorder and unusual arrangement is actually orderly as far as books are concerned. Books that are arranged too neatly and in perfect sequence indicate that probably they have not been touched, leave alone read! Whatever way you arrange your book shelf, it should reflect your distinctive style and taste!
I used to put books by author more or less but my shelves are too limited. Now I shelf by height. Sometimes I find surprises!
I arrange my books into my favorite to least favorite, and I always keep all of the books from the same author together. I also try to put all the read books on one full shelf. I don't know why.
I have lots of shelves. I have 2 by my bed that are Currently Reading or To Read. Then I have Favorites in a bookcase, along with Christian, Helpful/Educational and To Read/Decide about Reading. I even have a shelf or 2 for Gift books that I am saving to give friends on their Wedding, Baby Shower, etc.
I arrange my books by Size first and series later.. then if they are of same author then they will always be together!
By height, then how they look prettiest on my bookshelves...I love a pretty spine. No order whatsoever.
I arange my books by genre, then author. Classics, religion, historical fiction, mysteries/suspense, cookbooks, academic. There are always at least two books on my bedside table. Then I had to relocate. How do you decide which books to donate and which ones to keep? A nightmare no bibliophile should ever have to face. Academics were donated, as were all but the most beloved of mysteries/suspense. The rest are in the front of storage unit for easy access. Sometimes I go and just look at my collection of friends.

How do you arrange your books? Authors' last names, rainbow colored, or genre-wise? Or something different?
