Matto means mad and pazzo means crazy (that's where we get pasty in English from). But matto came before pazzo because 'pazzo' was invented after the Pazzi (that's a family name but it ends in an i so it's technically plural) attempted a coup of the Florentine (is it a republic? I have no idea...) by killing Lorenzo and Giuliano de' Medici (they killed Giuliano but not Lorenzo). So people probably started saying 'oh, you're just like the Pazzi' but then someone said 'why is it plural' (because the name was like wiped out of Florence). So I don't want to be considered 'pazzo' because that would sort of imply that I hate the Medici, while I do not.


This is why I'm crazy :D
