Rebecca | 225 comments I started reading Dead Witch Walking. I'm only a chapter into it, but I'm having a really hard time following it. She keeps mentioning things that I have no idea what she is talking about. Does it get easier to follow?

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments It does! I honestly didn't like the first book very much and only liked the second more. It wasn't until the third that I fell in love with the series. It does get better and easier to follow. The first book is pretty long and it explains a lot about the world and people. Hang in there, it will get better!

Genea Definitely, hang in there. I actually had abandoned the first book but came back to it a few months later. It took more than halfway through to actually start getting into the story. It's now one of my favorite UF series.

CassieCruel | 40 comments It was one of the first series I read and I devoured the first few books

wonderfullyweird88 | 5 comments This is one of my favourite series. It takes a while to get in to it but by the third installment you will be hooked.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Yes it makes sense. I loved the first one (and series) but some people have trouble with the first one. Not sure why but different reader, different draw kind of thing.

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) Right. I loved it right off :)

CassieCruel | 40 comments The only thing that put me off was the tiny tiny writing!!

Rebecca | 225 comments It's something about the writing that makes it difficult for me to follow. I don't always get a clear picture in my head. I think it's partly because she talks about things like you should already know the world. I will stick with it though.

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments It does get better and things are explained better, or maybe not, maybe we just finally can picture it after three or so books LOL! Either way, it seems to take most everyone a book or two (or three) to settle into the series.

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) Just wait til Jenks starts cracking you up! I couldn't read her last 3-4 books in bed late at night because I'd laugh and wake my BF up...

Rae | 39 comments Oh Rebecca, I envy you, because you are starting this series. What makes this series so G-D terrific are:
1. It has a begining-middle/climax-and ending (I hate series that go on forever). 2. The heroin and the hero aren't perfect (they make a ton of mistakes and stumble their way through heroism). 3. Rachel isn't an inexperience virgin with no past. (she's relatable--not a whore, just dated some butthole and had nice boyfriends too).

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Rae, you're completely right about Rachel being flawed, which I liked. None of the 'good guys' are truly good guys, they all have their dark spots, which I also like. I enjoy Rachel not having a chip on her shoulder like so many other heroines too.

Rebecca | 225 comments So I finished book 2 yesterday. I liked it a lot better than the first. The only thing I think is missing is a good love story. Nick and her just all of sudden started dating and there's no fun to their relationship. I do see some potential with other characters of the book though. :) No spoilers please!

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments Things will heat up in that department as well so no worries. ;) So glad you liked books two more, you will like three even better I think.

Rebecca | 225 comments Here is what really annoys me about her writing. In book 3 chapter 21 *spoiler alert* when she's having sex with Kisten, she asks him if he has ever had sex with a witch before. He says I know what I'm getting myself into. She says I didn't want you to be surprised. So this makes the reader assume there is something odd that happens when you have sex with a witch, but nothing happened! Maybe I missed it or maybe it's explained in the next chapter?? I fell like she mentions things, but never explains them. It seems like she just assumes you know.

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments No it never explains it but you're right, there is a lot of that sadly. :(

I've read that book a long time ago but doesn't she explain it when she's about to have sex with Nick? I think I remember something like that.

Rebecca | 225 comments The only thing I remember was that she can't have kids with a human. That was in book 2 so I'd have to check to see if there was anything else.

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments You're right about the child thing but I'm not sure about the vamp thing other than the "blood aspect" but I don't know about the witch thing. I'm really trying to think if it's ever mentioned. I might have to ask someone I know who loves this series, I bet she would know.

I love the series so I should probably know that...but I really can't remember. In my defense, I read it 3 years ago. Anyway, I think it was something with her power when she climaxed or maybe something actually different anatomically speaking? I so have to reread those books.

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) Me, too, Ana.

Hi Rebecca,

I had a tough time remembering this chat topic to return, but it stayed on my mind.

In response to your question about having sex with a witch...it has to do with the muscles of their private areas holding the man in after their coupling...depending on how much they enjoyed the experience.

Let us know how are you coming along...it's nice re-experiencing this series.

Does it explain that in a different book or did I miss it? I just finished book 4. My friend just finished book 3 and she didn't get it either.

I am not 100% sure but I think when (view spoiler). But maybe I'm wrong.

That's right. They mentioned it when she and Nick first met...(I'm not sure which book, it was either the first or second book).

I am so going to re-read the Hollows series! Besides I bought a translation into my language so I will check the quality of it :)

Rebecca | 225 comments Finally! I'm reading book 8 (black magic sanction) and it finally tells you what happens when you have sex with a witch. You girls were right. I can't believe she mentions it in book 3, but you don't get an explanation until book 8!

On a side note, book 8 is my favorite so far!

Glad you are liking it. I really think that series got SO much better as it went, it just kept developing more and more.

That would definitely explain why I don't remember reading about it LOL! Not quite there yet. Thanks for letting us know though. ;) Crazy that it waits that long before explaining it.

Matie’s Reads (matiekurray) I have seen this series on SO many people's top lists. I have it on my kindle and have started it like 6 times but always end up starting something else instead. Maybe I'll have to just dive in and give it some time.

Sarah Morgan | 6 comments I have this series and have yet to even attempt to throw myself into it as I'm about halfway through Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series, which is awesome. I'm looking forward to getting into the Hollows. It's good to see everyone's views and the warning that the first book is hard to follow, makes me determined to plough through it when I get to it :) thanks everyone!

♥Lynn ♥ | 519 comments This is one of my all time favorite book series. I'm glad you made it through the first book. It was hard for me as well to keep up with the first book. There is just so much to the world created that I felt left behind in some parts.

As to the sex question, I thought she answered the when she was sitting in the apartment with Nick, early on in the series. Not only does a witch's latch on, but they can pull magic through their them, like a backwards, forwards type of deal to push them over the edge.

Yeah they explain the witch difference thing early on with Nick, and then a few more times in the series. It could be a moment when readers miss it. I remember her recalling telling Nick and him getting an almost sad expression on his face because he was confused.
