Silvia (biblionation) | 187 comments Hey guys, as the voting for our group read continues here:https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

Let's start discussing what are you planning on reading individually.

I want to read the Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter from the suggestions discussion! What about you?

message 2: by Frogli (new)

Frogli | 75 comments I'm still planning to read Bitter Greens although haven't actually started it yet.

The discussion reminded me that have actually read more retellings than I thought!

That looks good! Definitely adding it to my to-read list.

message 4: by Tamara (new)

Tamara (tamarasan) i'm likely going to read Bitter Greens or The Wild Girl.

Possibly The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories as well. We'll see.

message 5: by j. (new)

j. (dunhams) I'm going to read The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories, I've been meaning to read it for a long time. Also probably going to start Uprooted if I'm not too busy with uni.

message 6: by Silvia, (grangerandherbooks) (new)

Silvia (biblionation) | 187 comments I want to read The Bloody Chamber and Uprooted too, but I'm in the middle of my midterms so I don't know if I'll have the time. So far I'm reading The Wrath and the Dawn and loving it SO MUCH, there's tons of fairy-tale references, and lots of drama, gorgeous settings, lovely writing, and a hate-to-love relationship, which are my weakness.

message 7: by Sole (new)

Sole (fluorita) I started reading Uprooted. I'm finding it very interesting :)

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Uprooted, I've been wanting to read this since it came out and Renuka's review is very intriguing, I'm still not sure about this book. How's it been for you?

message 9: by Sole (new)

Sole (fluorita) @Silvia: Just finished reading it last night, and have to say it was AWESOME! I'd have have liked a bit more romance in it, or perhaps some more development by the end, but can't express how much I loved the story.
I'd recommend it for everyone, though a fair warning: the book keeps getting darker, has a LOT of deaths, and let's say a tiny bit of explicit content.

Dark? Hell yes, I need to read it ASAP!

Lol! Yup, deffinitely worth the time whenever you can.

Silvia (biblionation) | 187 comments I JUST FINISHED THE WRATH AND THE DAWN AND IT WAS COMPLETELY AMAZING BUT THAT ENDING HAS KILLED ME AND I CANNOT GO ON LIKE THIS. WHAT WAS THAT ENDING? HOW CAN I WAIT UNTIL FEBRUARY?

someone please hug me right now

*hugs Silvia* This is why I don't like to read ongoing series >.<

The struggle is real! But it's really worth it, considering how AMAZING this book was. But now I have to wait until May, not February, according to Goodreads.

message 15: by Frogli (new)

Frogli | 75 comments So, conclusion is I should read The Wrath & the Dawn then? :p I do actually have it on my list but by the sounds of it maybe I'll wait until the sequel is out lol.

I finally started Bitter Greens and I am really enjoying it, just need more time to able to concentrate on reading it!

message 16: by Renuka , (eternal-books) (new)

Renuka | 212 comments *HUG* SYLVIA THE STRUGGLE IS SO REAL. The next book can't come fast enough!! MAY?!? Too far. I'll be like 95 years old then.

@Frogli, it's a vicious cliff-hanger tbh. Waiting wouldn't be a terrible choice, but you should read it anyway and feel our pain!

message 17: by Melany (new)

Melany (globalbymel) So the suggestions thread convinced me to read Bitter Greens, which I'm excited to start next week. Then it will be onto The Girls at the Kingfisher Club, which I'm really excited about since it's a 1920's Jazz re-telling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses and I love the 1920's era.

So for the Wrath & the Dawn, can someone give me some more detail about the feel of the romance in it? I've been cautious about starting it since some of the quotes have sounded... Twilight-ish? Or is it more like the romance in Deathless or something where they have a more equal relationship? I love Sherazade so I think I would like it, I'm just very cautious about the romances I read.

Ooooh I think the comparison to Deathless is a very good one, because even if Khalid is the king and he's a "monster" and feared by most, Sharhzad is his wife and she's more powerful because she makes him weak, she's also very strong and skillfull. While reading I never felt it was like Twilight.

message 19: by Sole (new)

Sole (fluorita) I started reading The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories today. I'm done with the first story -The Bloody Chamber-, but wasn't convinced much with it; at some points the narration felt confusing and the story was somewhat boring, not to mention I couldn't tell which fairy tell it was shaped around >.<

Oh no! I had such high hopes for these short stories! I'll try one myself to see if I can tell which fairy tale is retelling.

Well, the narration still feels awkward, but finished two more stories and started a third one. I liked them better than the first one, but I can already tell this isn't my kind of book :(

message 22: by Tamara (new)

Tamara (tamarasan) I just finished Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth and it was FABULOUS. I didn't understand why one character had a POV or how she was connected to the Rapunzel retelling until I got to the very end. If you like fairy tale retellings, I highly recommend this book.

message 23: by Helen (new)

Helen (cooksbooks78) I have read so many Fairy Tales this month. It has been amazing!
1. Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales
2. Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast
3. Twisted Fairy Tales
4. Fairy Tale
I am currently reading The Trials and Tribulations of Little Red Riding Hood

I am so grateful for this months reading because I am going to write my MA dissertation about Angela Carter's fairy tales and this month had rekindled my interest and passion (that was waning because life!). Thanks guys x

Wow! You really rocked this month Helen! Also your MA dissertation sounds amazing!

I really enjoyed Bitter Greens as well! Such very lovely descriptions of the places and clothes and food. I like how it tied to both the fairytale and the original writing of the fairytale.

Also read and enjoyed The Girls at the Kingfisher Club. Really want to go dancing to some 1920s music now.

message 26: by Frogli (new)

Frogli | 75 comments Another thumbs up for Bitter Greens from me as well, now I want to read The Wild Girl by the same author :)

message 27: by Tamara (last edited Oct 29, 2015 01:21PM) (new)

Tamara (tamarasan) I delved into all of the historical background of Bitter Greens, Charlotte-rose de la force, and the Rapunzel fairy tale; it's pretty interesting stuff!

Rapunzel

Fairy Tales were originally written by women

I'm definitely going to check this out, because Rapunzel is one of my favorite fairy tales.
