If Twilight was published in 2015, instead of 10 years ago, would it be received differently, or just about the same? (That is, assuming it could even get published now at all. But let's assume it could) Imagine a world where Twilight hadn't happened yet, there are no Twilight movies or Twilight fanfiction, its influence on the world didn't occur. (Would the void in YA literature post-Harry Potter have been filled with something similar, or some other, entirely different book series, or perhaps there wouldn't be one monolithic trend, but several smaller ones? Would vampires or planned trilogies have even blown up like they did?) In this alternate universe, Stephanie Meyer wrote Twilight before 2005(or whenever she happened to write it in Universe-Prime), but sat on it for over decade, then finally got it published today in basically the same form (but maybe some minimal edits to make it less 'dated') OR, second alternate universe option for those of you who have read Life and Death: Perhaps this gender-swapped version (view spoiler)[with the new ending that doesn't leave it open for endless love triangle sequels (hide spoiler)] was published instead. What do you think the critical and popular response would be, in either case? Would it explode on the scene, or would everybody just be like,'meh'?
