Between the Spark and the Burn ♥♥♥♥

Majority of the books I read have some form of magic in it (HUGE fantasy/paranormal fan) so this week wasn't difficult for me whatsoever. I decided to read the follow-up of Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea as the first book was pretty original. The 'magic' portion of the book involves the Redding brothers and their ability to mind control mass groups of people into doing whatever they want. Although the Reddings vary in the level of craziness, they use compulsion as entertainment and don't shy away from making a huge mess of things (view spoiler). Regardless of their intentions - a lot of people die at the hands of the Redding brothers over the course of these two books.

Not only is the paranormal aspect intriguing, but the author's writing style is original and engaging. This isn't your typical YA book, so if you enjoy younger MCs but are turned away from books that are geared for pre-teens you *may* enjoy this.

Also, through another challenge I was reading quite a bit of gothic/horror books. I've found this series to be one of the better YA gothic/horror books I've encountered.

It's not perfect. The MC Violet makes quite a few dumb, dumb, dumb decisions. But I let it slide :)
