So we have another new POV, Camlin (Sounds like a stand up chap!)

Camlin turns out to be one of the Darkwood brigands, we also find out it is he who is in charge of the lawless men who have been burning holds, more specifically Darol's.

We also find out how the women and children died. Camlin's conscience seemed to draw the line at those and it had been one of his men, Goran who was attacked by one of the women lashed out and before Camlin could do anything about it the women and lad was dead. Camlin is almost berating himself for not killing Goran on the spot for going against orders. At the time he actually had his knife out.

We also find out what drove Camlin to join the Darkwood Brigands. Vengance, anger and little other choice. John tells it far better than I could, so give it a read :-)

He is guiding what is left of his band through the Baglun, being tracked by Pendathran, a man who held a close personal grudge with Camlin's leader Braith. All of them are woodland men but even they are finding the dense thicket of thorn bushes difficult to navigate, everyone cut here and there.

Camlin decides they are in a safe enough place to rest, safe in the knowledge that Pendathrans men would have to dismount to navigate the thicket and even then would make slow progress.

Camlin wakes up with a sense of unease and then hears sounds. He calls his men to arms and a battle in the dark ensues. He doesn't know whose side is winning so in true outlaw style he makes a run for it. He is accompanied by Goran as they make it to the fringes of the Baglun.

They make a run out onto a plain, following the river to the marshes where they plan to lose their pursuers. While still on the plain riders break out of the tree line.

The chapter ends thusly: "Don't kill them," a voice cried faintly from the warriors running out of the forest. As he began to turn, a searing pain lanced into his sside. His legs were suddenly weak, his vision blurring as he slumped to the ground.

Could this be a one chapter POV???????? Read on!

Steve (syler147) I wonder what he's going to contribute to the story... unlikely he's only going to be in it for this 1 chapter...

Julia Sarene (kitvaria) I liked how we got played here. Putting Camlin in as POV makes you kind of root for both parties! Yes, Camlin's the outlaw, but as you are in his head, you get to see and understand his thoughts. So how would I want this to go on??

I like the way we see the 'bad' persons side which shows us that people aren't in fact 'good' or 'bad' but just people, shades of grey.

J.P. Ashman (jpashman) | 33 comments Exactly! Realism.

Natalka Adamovich | 5 comments I remember when I first read his POV I was a little uninterested because I wanted to get back to Corban and Veradis, but I really enjoy his contribution and his POV from the enemies side.

Lancer (elancer) | 6 comments Now being at the end of Ruin I think Camlin is my favourite POV

I remember when Dad first read me Camlin's chapter back in 2009ish, he was my favourite, although my Mum was appalled that my favourite character was a murdering bandit!
