message 1: by Anna (new)

Anna Halloween must be my all time favourite holiday! I look reading a spooky & haunting book by candle light. So this year I have decided to celebrate Halloween by reading:

- Asylum
- Florence & Giles

and to continue with House of Leaves.

What do you guys tend to read around Halloween? Are you like me and get into the spoken spirit and curl up with a good horror?

I love Halloween! It's my second favourite holiday besides Christmas and that's only because of the snow. I remember when I was living in Germany, and I read this book. I think I stayed up for a week because it was so terrifying. The Tell-Tale Heart and Other Writings

Anna "You're jokin', you're jokin'
I can't believe my ears
Would someone shut this fella up?
I'm drownin' in my tears.
It's funny, I'm laughing
you really are too much
And now, with your permission,
I'm going to do my stuff"

LOVE Nightmare Before Christmas!

I have heard about The Tell-Tale Heart and Other Writings, but never read it. I must give this a try.

H.L. Walton | 24 comments I am in Australian and typically we don't usually do anything for Halloween (which always bummed me out as a kid) but I have three small children of my own now and I want them to have some fun on this awesome holiday so this year I've organized a Halloween party for them and their friends at our place. Even their Dad and I will be dressing up so should be heaps of fun. Hoping to start this up as a new family tradition.

Are you reading anything special for Halloween?

message 6: by Terese (new)

Terese I love Halloween! I usually read some Poe, M.R James and Lovecraft this time of year.

Though, since I got it last year I think that "The Fifty Year Sword" might've become a yearly tradition for me, for Halloween itself. It's by Mark Z Danielewski (the same guy who wrote House of Leaves) and has some cool illustrations. It is pretty much a performance piece though, and reads as one, so reading it out loud is recommended :)

I've been focusing so much on my writing at the moment Annabella that I haven't really had much time for reading so been getting through books really slow. Just finished Hideaway by Dean Koontz which was kind of creepy and currently reading The Accursed People by LFA Turppa (a fellow indie author) which is fantasy. Also just started Pretty Little Things by Jilliane Hoffman which has been staring at me from my bookshelf for ages wanting me to read it :-) so nothing too spooky at the moment. What about you?

Anna I finished Asylum the other day. Kinder let me down. I thought it would have been a little more chilling. I guess it is for the more younger age.

Uuugh. I did not like that book. I found it more confusing than frightening. I read it a year or so ago.

Anna Asylum? I did have to re-read a few sentences.
