Maddie (modernmadkat) | 1 comments There was a book I read in about 2010 or 2011. It was directed towards middle grade of children I believe, possibly YA. It was about a little girl who loved drawing. I believe she was a foster child. She put her foster brother or friend or something in danger, so she ran away. I believe she stole a car or something and crashed it. She ended up living with a lady who helped her. The book was all about her telling her stories through her art and such.

Maddie, is your story set in modern or historical times (e.g., The Girl Who Ran Away by Joan G. Robinson which is a long shot)?

Where did she live - U.S.? country/small town/city?

Erssie | 10 comments Sounds like White Oleander by Jane Fitch.

Astrid's father abandons them, I think he is artistic. Then a major incident involving her Mum's boyfriend means Astrid gets put into the care system and passed around various homes. Her only release is through drawing. This book was featured in Oprah's bookclub I remember. I read it about 15 yrs ago.

GR link for Erssie's suggestion - White Oleander by Janet Fitch.

I was thinking it might be White Oleander too but since Maddie said it was directed toward middle school age or young adult I wasn't sure if this was correct.

Courtney: Typically, moderators don't consider a thread "abandoned" unless there has been no response for two or more years.

Oh okay, thank you

Rainbowheart | 29082 comments Agreed this sounds like Pictures of Hollis Woods.

If not, might also want to check the Runaways in YA and Middle Grade Fiction list.
