I enjoyed this book very much.

Anybody want to read the whole series with me?

Just finished this volume. Wow, I loved it! I'm still fairly new to comics, but this is unlike anything I have come across before. It's dirty, grimy, grungy, and glorious!

There are some pretty despicable characters, including our main character, Spider, but in his own crazy, messed-up way, he has a sense of morals and you can't help but like him.

I think the real star of this book is the art. Every page is just teeming with details both big and small. It's the little flourishes that really did it for me. Every page has some neat little touch that doesn't add to the story, but adds to the flavor and color of the world. These panels must have taken a LONG time to draw.

Elia, no question about it I'm going to be reading all ten volumes. I will probably space it out a bit because 1) my comics to-read pile is growing rapidly and 2) (more importantly) i want to savor this one for a little while. Still, if there is a buddy reads post for it, I might join in.

Transmet is Warren Ellis cut totally loose. This makes for a hilarious read most of the time, but sometimes his aim to be "over the top, pedal to the metal" all the time comes over a tad forced to me. At those moments I found the writing a little bit tiresome, but overall I really loved the series. This goes for the whole run, not so much for the first book alone. (It's been a while since I read the series)

As enjoyable as this first (shorter than the others) volume is, it's not nearly as good as the series gets. But you get a good sampling of the weird and funny and angry and verbose kind of comic it is from it. Spider Jerusalem is a legend!
