Several of our group members have read Zakes Mda's Ways of Dying. He will be in Atlanta at Centennial Hall Auditorium-- 100 Auburn Ave. Georgia State University on March 28th @11:00 a.m. This is part of the Five from Five Literary series (South Africa, Brazil, China, South Korea & Turkey).

I enjoyed his book(s). I hope it's recorded, I'd like to hear what he has to say.

Pearl Cleage starts her book tour for Things I Should Have Told My Daughter: Lies, Lessons & Love Affairs at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta on April 7th then followed by an appearance at Charis Books on April 18th. While this is a memoir and not a novel, Cleage is a favorite among many of our group members.

He does not self censor so the attendees are in for an interesting evening, to say the least. I've only read one of his books but [book:Black Betty and Fortunate Son are high on my priority list.

Hmmm... I still think that 2010 and 2011 were better. I wonder if there is a way to suggest authors for them to invite.

I know I've missed some good author readings in the past, Mina. As I was telling you, this festival coincides with the largest free Jazz festival in the world - Detroit International Jazz Festival. I get to go home to see my family, eat some delicious food and this year enjoy The Pharoah Sanders Quartet, Joshua Redman, Lou Donaldson & Regina Carter among many other giants in the industry - Free! Ok, now that I got that plug in. What authors did I miss in '10 & '11?

The jazz festival sounds great! Let's see - off the top of my head, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Tayari Jones, Tananarive Due, Jesmyn Ward, Elizabeth Nunez, Patricia Smith, Natasha Trethewey, Persia Walker and probably a few more if I thought about it a little longer! Oh, and in what I think was the first year of the festival, the brilliant and reclusive Edward P. Jones.

The library is located at 10405 O'Donnell Place, Waldorf, MD 20603.

I wish you weren't so far from me. I would be there.

No problem..see you there!
