I have recently read some modern additions to old favourites and really enjoyed them. I thought Jill Paton Walsh's Peter Wimsey books were excellent, had i not known I would have assumed they were written by DL Sayers herself. PD James' mystery set in Pemberley and Anthony Horowitz's Sherlock story were also excellent. I was wondering what other peoples experiences were with modern add ons.

I have read Death comes to Pemberley and thought it was good. It picked up some of the threads of Pride and Prejudice and created a good murder mystery. I have House of Silk in my TBR pile.
I didn't like James' PEMBERLEY, but particularly the last volume of Walsh's Peter Wimsey sequel really took off. There is a new one just out, which I have to go look at.
I really like the recent Wimsey books. I thought the Horowitz Sherlock was ok but I couldn't finish the P.D. James Pemberly.

Thanks for that, i'm in Ireland though and it was released here last december. don't know how i missed it. I really enjoyed House of Silk although I found the ending tough to read.
I thought Walsh really broke through into excellence at the latter part of ATTENBURY EMERALDS (everybody who has read it, you know where I mean) and I am hoping she can sustain it in the next book.
just read the first two chapters of val mcdermids northanger abbey and liked it a lot. will give it a try.
