Dara S. (dara85) | 35 comments I just watched Still Alice Still Alice by Lisa Genova last night. The book was better, but the movie was pretty well done. This is a powerful book.

Kerry (caseykerry) | 251 comments DARA- I too JUST watched ' Still Alice' last week! :) I have not yet read the book but did enjoy the film very much. I enjoyed the pinter-moments, how much was 'said' in the silence in the film if you know what I mean. If you say the book was even better- I would def give that a go :)

Kerry (caseykerry) | 251 comments True Story: Murder, Memoir, Mea Culpa (Film 2015 called 'true story' with james franco) i recently watched. strange story. the film doesn't give details of the murder or motive or really anything...it's mainly the 2 men and their insecurities in one odd set of circumstances. might read the book as i've heard it's laced with ego which may explain more

Dara S. (dara85) | 35 comments I watched Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption a couple of weeks ago. The movie was very brutal. My husband would not even watch it with me.

Dara S. (dara85) | 35 comments I saw The Shunning a Hallmark movie. It was pretty good. If you like clean, Christian fiction movies this is a good one.

Simon (siid) | 27 comments just watched "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared". Wanted to read the book for some time, but never came 'round to do so. Movie was hillarious:) Sort of a swedish Forrest Gump.

i must say i have never heard of it bu]t the title is great! did it make you still want to read the book?

The book was quite a big deal in Europe (at least in Austria and Germany as far as I remember) when it was published a couple of years ago...I guess the movie wasn't that big a success, since I never noticed it playing at the movies.

As I mentioned, I did enjoy the movie, it was quite amusing, yet the story didn't fascinate me enough to want me to still read the book now.

Kerry (caseykerry) | 251 comments last night I saw THE MARTIAN. ...omg I loved this film! I hadt known it was a book, aside from knowing it had been sub!fitted to the 2016 Oscars.. I hadn't seen a trailer or known what the story was.... 9\10 I loved it.

message 22: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Watched Me Before You last night (read the book last year at this time) -- book was better. But movie kept true to story. So irritating when they change things. I understanding leaving parts out, but the parts they keep -- why do the have to change??

I havent seen the film yet but a student of mine gave me the book as a gift (bless her) so even though I'm not hugely into fiction- i have 2 read it now :) so im glad 2 hear the books better lol

alot of the time book material gets condenced for screen- just gotta remember theyre diff mediums.

I WATCHED 'NOCTURNAL ANIMALS' and loved it! THEN realised it was based off a book Tony and Susan and just ordered it. I used to be a film student and my after thought after watching this film was that is is EXACTLY the kind of film/ story where an in depth essay would get you into film school :) (my film school essay that got me a spot was on 'American History X' :)

message 24: by Simon (new)

Simon (siid) | 27 comments Just watched "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" (obviously after reading the book). I actually liked it quite a bit, though, obviously, I prefer the book. The book is way more in depth, altough the movie stays pretty close to the book.

Any thoughts?

Oh my gosh, I LOVED NOCTURNAL ANIMALS! Please let me know if the book is worth reading! What I loved most was the cinematography (film student here too) so I'm not sure if I'll like the book quite as much, but do let me know what you think! American History X is also one of my faves :)

message 26: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (caseykerry) | 251 comments Well Portia I'm sure we NEED to be instant friends!!! Lol :)
I'm over half way on the book of nocturnal animals (Titled Tony and Susan ...which as you know seems pretty smart.) I did put it down for a while as I felt like it wasn't doing the movie justice (weird I know) but I'll pick it up again this week to finish. If you go to my 'review' I've been writing notes I think as I go.

Simon I have never ever heard of that one.
