The November 2015 book is Reflections of Loko Miwa by Lilas Desquiron.

Please post here if you're reading.

Into the Heart of Haiti

Ramona Gault | 84 comments A new find for me--it looks enticing. I just ordered a used copy from Amazon.

Ramona Gault | 84 comments I read Wade Davis' "The Serpent and the Rainbow" long ago. It's about voudun or voodoo in Haiti, specifically the creation of zombies. That was WAY before the current zombie craze. Fascinating reading!

Ramona Gault | 84 comments I just ordered a used copy of "Reflections."

Janice (JG) I have only just begun reading it, and I already like the translation.

Katy (kathy_h) I actually have a copy of this. Hoping to find the time to read it this year.

Janice (JG) I've just finished it, and I found it captivating. I learned a lot about a lot of things about Haiti. For those who finish, what did you think of the ending?

Ramona Gault | 84 comments I just got my used copy and am reading it slowly. It seems to be a fine piece of writing so far, very sensitive and perceptive. I wouldn't have discovered it without this reading group!

Janice (JG) I'm thinking of reading Graham Greene's The Comedians as a follow-up, as it takes place during the same (Papa Doc) era in Haiti as Loko Miwa, and he also delves into the subject of voodoo.

Ramona, I'm glad to hear that. The thing that attracted me to the Endicott book lists were that I kept discovering wonderful books I'd never have read otherwise (Mortal Love, The Stolen Child, The Lambs of God, The Facts of Life, etc.)

I haven't been able to find a circulating copy of Reflections of Loko Miwa in the library, but because of the positive feedback here, I'm going to keep a lookout for it.

Janice, thanks for mentioning The Comedians. I've never read it, but I've enjoyed Graham Green in the past and I love when one book leads to another by context or subject. Ramona's earlier suggestion of The Serpent and the Rainbow sounds like another interesting connected read.
