I think in a sense Magnus is very lonely. He knows what his mortality means, losing everyone he becomes attached to. So in a way he tries push people away (pretends not to care) but also loves to no end when he finds someone he cares about because he knows what it's like to lose them.

Magnus had fallen in love many times, as seen from the Bane Chronicles, and many times those ended up tragic for him. Sometimes, the mundane dies. And other times, like the one with Camille, the person left him and it's heartbreaking for Magnus himself and for us, the readers.
And also, in the Infernal Devices and the Bane Chronicles, Magnus sometimes talked about forgetting. Like how he had known a warlock once who had forgotten how to feel, how to love, what happiness and sadness are. He had forgotten emotions and yet he was too afraid of death. And Magnus fears that this will happen to him. That someday he will forget those feelings that he had once cherished. It's all really sad, even though Magnus pretends that he is okay by joking around....I really want to see a Malec wedding. Probably gonna be sparkly! Tbh, I just want to see all the couples' life together after TMI
I was actually just hoping that he will stay with Alec.
I think Magnus gets attached to a lot of people but only a few actually acknowledge him. He doesn't try to show many mortals feelings he likes lots of people who are immortal ( Tessa Catarina Ragnar Camille) but when it comes to mortals he is very careful not to get to attached because he knows they will hurt him in the end
I love Magnus and Malec :-) Cassandra did say and posted on twitter and tumblr taht she is planing Malec wedding - and I just cant wait :-)
thing that makes me sad is that I think Magnus should give up his mortality and grow old with Alec-his true love (or make Alec imortal somehow)... they should stay together onew way or another , and on that nor - Cassandra doesn't think so - or so I read - which makes me sad , and I do hope she changes her mind about it :-)

I don't think it's something that soeone can just decide and would be able to do. Or else Tessa would have tried it to stay with Will.
that is true ... it just makes me sad :-/well I hope she will find a way to write a happy end :-)

Magnus is an awesome character and his relationship with Alec (in my opinion) is quite funny. I have only read up to the beginning of "city of fallen angels" (book 4 of the mortal instruments) but, when Magnus is trying to get Alec to wear more shiny and standout-ish clothing I think it is hilarious.

Magnus is my favorite character out the books so far.
I absolutely LOVE Magnus! He does seem kind of lonely except when he is with Alec.
I think that Alec may remind Magnus of Will, but while Will was untouchable Alec loves Magnus. Maybe to Magnus Alec is all the parts that Will could never be to him. I ship them so hard
