I've read both, but apart from the fact that they're both insectoid, I think that they're both very different. It probably depends on what you're asking - whether you're thinking about physical appearance, societal structure, or something else.
Oy ... GAH! I've read both, but it's been so long I don't remember all that many similiarities.
Well its says that they have a hive mind. Also it says they are able to talk to queens anywhere in any hive, that they are the same and they have an ancient knowledge of all time.

The Formics much less so, in my memory of the stories. More than anything you heard intermittently from the Queen, rather than individuals.
I think their society is more implied than defined, which leads to more speculation.
