New Year/New Author
Start the new year off with something new!
Read one book by an author you've never read before. (Possibly an author you've been wanting to read for awhile.)

Mission: This is a one book mini-challenge to be completed in January.

I read The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau for this challenge. It was a good book for being middle grade. It was also one of the few dystopians that the knowledge the characters had fit with what they could do, technology wise.

Leapin' Lizards! It's Leap Year! What will we do with all the extra time? (Ha!)

Mission: Complete this mini-challenge with something you can finish in a day. Possibilities might include a play, a poem, a short novel, an article on Wikipedia (please link), War and Peace for Speed Readers, etc.

I finished Deadman Wonderland, Vol. 11 by Jinsei Kataoka and it was really good. I am supprised from all the violence it did not get an M rating, but other than that it is clean language wise. This series is very gripping and sad.

This single book challenge is only good for one month!
From February 1 to February 29.

Mission: Find and read one book with a cover that is somehow associated with the Valentine experience. This could mean hearts, flowers, chocolate, pink, love, letters, heartbreak. Also, the book doesn't have to be a romance, just have some Valentine association on the cover. (Artwork or Title)

Any genre is welcome. Finding the books is part of the fun!

Please include something about the "Valentine Connection" in your post, so we can all enjoy your creativity. :)

I read Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs. The cover has a boy with wings, hence a cherub or cupid.

This is a new challenge for 2016 for those who love reading series novels. A bit tricky since that can mean anywhere from 3 to 30 novels! But I thought we'd give it a try. It will run all year and can be done for more than one series. Graphic novel series are welcome.
-You can do this for more than one series, but you need to post them separately.
-You don't have to read the entire series. For example, You may choose to read the first 3-4 books of one series, then start a new challenge with a different series. Depending on your reading habits.
The Plan...

This single book challenge is only good for one month! From March 1 to March 31.

Mission: Find and read one book with a story or cover/title that is somehow associated with the "Irish" experience. Books set in Ireland, Irish immigrant stories, anything by Maeve Binchy, etc. For cover/title, this could mean green, orange, luck, clover, lucky charms (rabbit's foot, etc.), or whatever else means "Irish" to you. (Without being offensive, of course. This is a happy, welcoming book group. Everyone on the planet has to deal with some stereotype.)

Any genre is welcome. Finding the books is part of the fun!

Reading Tears of the Moon by Nora Roberts. It has a green cover, and takes place in Ireland. It is good so far, very humorous with the heroines straight forward and stubborn personality, and the hero being oblivious for a little bit, but now he has decided to play her game by his rules.

Sports and Madness. Humanity's favorite topics. This is a two book mini-challenge for the month of March. One book should be related to a sport, any sport. The other book should be somehow related to psychology. That could mean a whole lot of things that don't qualify as "insanity."

Madness- Pandora Hearts, Vol. 23 Memory Loss, Love the series!

Sports- The Winning Season Baseball romance... ehhh

According to tradition, Julius Caesar was warned by prophecy to "Beware the Ides of March." For this mini-mini, read one book with paranormal activity by March 31, 2016.

I read I.O.N by Arina Tanemura by Arina Tanemura for this challenge. It is about a girl named Ion who uses her name as a spell to make her dreams come true. She comes into contact with a substance a classmate in the psychic research club creates and it gives her powers when she chants her name. She can levatate/fly and saves a little boy at one point.

A very cute and short story.

The crueliest month

April is the cruelest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain.”
-T. S. Eliot

Mission: Read something with a deliciously wicked villain. This is a one book/play mini-challenge to be completed between April 1 - 30.

Who's the cruelest of them all? Voldemort. Cruella de Vil. Mr. Tulkinghorn. Bill Sikes. Claude Frollo. Count Olaf. Mrs. Danvers. Iago. Macbeth/Lady Macbeth. Dracula. Sauron. Gil-Martin. Screwtape. Nurse Ratchet. James/Victoria. Dorian Grey. Steerpike. Smaug.

ReadScrivener's Moon

First, you have Charles Shallow. He twists everything to his own purpose, lieing if it suits him, and quashing all good emotions. At one point, he betrays his girlfriend, knowing she will be put to death for her plans to stop London. Ge even thinks, later on, that it was her own fault for choosing the wrong side. He tries to drive Dr.Crumb insane so that he can be controlled. He admits at one point that he does not feel things like others.

Then, there is London itself. The new king of London has decided to make it mobile. It feeds on other cities and nomad cultures, the cargo bay doors looking like giant jaws
A very interesting concept.

If April showers bring May flowers, what do Mayflowers bring?
A new mini-challenge!!!

Mission: Read a book that has the name of a flower in its title. This is a one book mini-challenge to be completed between May 1 - 31.

Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris
Cute and fluffy read. The main issue for me was that the characters seamed a lot younger then thier 17/18 age, but they were sheltered so I suppose it can be explained by that.
And Marigold and her "floormops" ahahahaha I loved it

Summer by the Shore

Mission: Read one book with a beach or shore town setting before August 31.

Dogwood Hill by Sherryl Woods. It was a good book, set in Chesapeake Shores with lots of family and love.

June Bride

*sings* Because it's JUNE! June, June, June. Just because it's June, June, June! *dances, too*

Mission: Read a book that has the word "bride" in its title. Or a bridal gown displayed prominently on the cover. This is a one book mini-challenge to be completed before June 31.

Finished The Bride's Necklace by Kat Martin

I am finding more of these adventure romances lately. A pretty good balance of mystery, action and romance though a bit contrived at times. I am also bothered by the fact of how young all the characters are-Tory is only 19

Rules: Pick Two books to read during June/July/August. Make your choices by matching a format in list one to a category in list two. For example, if you listen to And the Band Played On as an audiobook, your next book cannot be a history or on audio.

Format
1) Paperback
2) Hardcover
3) Audio
4) Ebook

Categories
1) LGBTQ+ Fictional Character, written before 1969
2) LGBTQ+ Fictional Character, written after 1969
3) LBGTQ+ History
4) LGBTQ+ Memoir or Biography
5) LGBTQ+ Author
6) LGBTQ+ Studies

I am going to read If I Was Your Girl and The Price of Salt: OR Carol, if I can get away with them both being ebooks ;)

Finished The Price Of Salt. It was quite good.
Finished If I Was Your Girl. It was a lovely book.

Summer means so many pleasant things; picnics, swimming, barbecues, bonfires on the beach. Yet, we can also associate these things with the inevitable arrival of our insect friends. The charming ladybug, the buzzing bee, the ambitious ant, the pesky mosquito, the fascinating firefly... These creatures are as much a part of summer as bathing suits and citronella.

Mission: Read a book with an insect in the title.
This is a single book mini to be completed before September 20.

Flies in the Face of Fashion, Mites Make Right, and Other BUGdacious Tales by Tom Turpin

Nothing says summer like a cool, sweet slice of watermelon.

For this challenge, read one book with fruit in the title before summer's end. (September 20)

Home on Apple Blossom Road (Life in Icicle Falls, #9) by Sheila Roberts
