Emma Jaye | 3693 comments This is a general group. In joining this group you have agreed TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK of under 45,000 words within the set 8 week limit.
If you don’t agree to that tell me now so that I can find another member who will do so.
There is no genre filtering.

If you are only willing to review your own preferred genres then sorry, but you’re better off finding a group that specialises in your preference, or joining one of the 18+ rounds or a ‘clean’ review round. In this general group you might be asked to review fiction/non-fiction, adults’/children’s books, a religious text, BDSM, or anything in between. Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate genre preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. Please consider each book as an example of its genre and length. A novella or short story is not going to have the same length/complexity of story/character arc as a full length novel. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments I have reviewed (and liked) Writing Flash Fiction.

Lisa Reads & Reviews (lisareviews) Chance Maree

submits

Kimi and the Shaman

Mike has reviewed my work in a previous round.

Thanks!

message 6: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments But not this particular book.

message 7: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Larsen Can I join with Simple Candle Magick: Easy, Powerful Candle Spells for Beginners to Wicca and Witchcraft?

I have reviewed Writing Flash Fiction, but I could certainly review her Coffee House Lies this time, (even though it isn't a novella, that's okay with me)

I believe Mike reviewed my Wicca: A Beginner's Guide last Novella round, but not Simple Candle Magick - they are from the same series.

message 8: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments Yes, that's correct.

message 9: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments so everyone gets a chance to participate in a round, I am moving the two people with novellas who have signed up to both the normal general round and the novella round to just the novella round.

message 10: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I think I've got Mike, Carly and Chance suitable separated.

I can't promise I'll be able to fit other people in that have connections with you three, but I'll certainly try.

Thanks, Emma. You are a logistical wizard!

William Peters | 29 comments Hi, I'd like to join this round, if possible. I'd like to submit my second book, Escaping the Dark House: A Self-Help Memoir of Depression (22,000 words):

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Emma: I'm currently reading your book Discovery, but think I can manage reading/reviewing it and the requirements of this review group.

Cheers,

Will

message 13: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Budi | 19 comments I (Jesse Budi) would love to take part in another round with A Collection of Angels, if it's not taboo to enter the same work. Of the current participants, I've only been reviewed by Chance.

message 14: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments William you're in. Sorry Jesse, but with the other members, the only spots left would either have you being reviewed by, or Reviewing Chance. neither of which are possible under the rules.

message 15: by Barnaby (last edited Nov 18, 2015 07:26AM) (new)

Barnaby Hazen | 36 comments Don't know if I'll fit in at this point -- I reviewed Cassandra and Mike in the last novella round (82). This book has never been reviewed by anyone: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

-Barnaby Hazen

message 16: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments I note that I've drawn two of the same authors I reviewed in the last novella round. I'm fine with that provided they're not the same books, but if you need to move me around that's also fine.

message 17: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I'd love to give you some more variety Mike, But as you have reviewed Chance, Carly and Cassandra, none of them can review you, and they still need their 4 reviews. Hopefully I'll be able to give you a little variety though.

message 18: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I can fit you in Barnaby, but you'd have to review at least Mike again, and I don't think he has another novella length book to offer.

message 19: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments Not novella-length, no. The shortest other book I have is 70,000 words.

message 20: by Barnaby (new)

Barnaby Hazen | 36 comments Emma wrote: "I can fit you in Barnaby, but you'd have to review at least Mike again, and I don't think he has another novella length book to offer."

I will try to find a stand in reviewer for that one. Hopefully this happens soon but if you have to go without me I understand.

message 22: by Dermot (last edited Nov 18, 2015 02:24PM) (new)

Dermot Davis (dermotdavis) | 47 comments I'd love to join up with a novella, Ruth Judges Joshua:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

I've been reviewed before by Chance but on a different book, no problem with her reviewing this one.

Thank you!

message 23: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Can everyone declare clashes, or if there are no clashes when they sign up?
I've have a few groups lately when after I've taken the hour or so it takes to sort out the order for each group and post it,someone then puts their hand up and says 'oh but so and so already reviewed me...'

message 24: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments The only clash for me is Carly. For Chance and Cassandra, I have reviewed them before but not these particular books.

message 25: by P.J. (new)

P.J. McDermott (goodreadscomjacobcarlisle) | 78 comments No clashes for me, Emma. I think I'm clear with this group.

message 26: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Larsen I have reviewed Carly, but I believe she has a few different novellas for me to review instead. Mike and Barnaby have reviewed me, but not this particular book. Emma, you have also reviewed me, but not this book. I believe those are all my clashes, but if it's too much, I can wait for the next novella round. No worries :)

message 27: by Barnaby (new)

Barnaby Hazen | 36 comments Chance -- I have a stand in reviewer ready to go. Didn't realize Cassandra had a different book here but if Mike is the only hang up for me, I have someone on board to review "Dog" in my place.

I hope I am clearing things up here for my involvement, but again, if it doesn't work out I am ready to wait. --Barnaby

message 28: by William (new)

William Peters | 29 comments Emma: No clashes for me. This is my first time entering a review round for this group.

I'd love to sign up! I have a novella, the Bard Speaks, I'd like to submit. I haven't read any of the others yet!

I just realized I addressed this to Chance and that might be confusing. I saw her as the group moderator, but on closer inspection here, I can see that Emma remains the Group Admin, and is apparently setting this up.

So Emma -- I have reviewed both Mike and Cassandra, but haven't reviewed the book Cassandra has in play here--AND I have someone in the wings prepared to review Mike's book (Dog) for me if it helps me get me in.. Thanks!

message 31: by Lisa (last edited Nov 18, 2015 09:05PM) (new)

Lisa Reads & Reviews (lisareviews) Mike has reviewed me, but not "Kimi and the Shaman"
Carly reviewed "Velia and the Magician", and not this one.
I've reviewed Dermot, but not "Ruth Judges Joshua"

I think that's all.

I'm fine reviewing and being reviewed by these authors again.

message 32: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I'm slowly working my way through these, but I think I'm going to have to bump Cassandra on to the next group, many apologies.

The Bard Speaks"

But have any of them reviewed you? I need to know both ways because if they have reviewed you, you can't review them.
The easiest way to do it is for all authors to set their own books as 'read' on their profile, then go to the other author's reviews and click 'compare books'.

Although it doesn't work if people are working with multiple author names/profiles. I'm afraid those people are going to have to do it the old fashioned way.

message 34: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Larsen Emma wrote: "I'm slowly working my way through these, but I think I'm going to have to bump Cassandra on to the next group, many apologies."

No worries Emma, I can wait :) Whatever makes it easier - I know sorting out the reading order for all these different groups isn't easy, especially with all these conflicts! Thanks for all the hard work; we all really appreciate it! See you in another round!

message 36: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Please post your clashes Ibiloye, you've been in quite a few groups and I don't have the time to look for everyone who signs up.

message 37: by Ibiloye (new)

Ibiloye Christian | 51 comments No Clash moderator, except that you should note that Dermot Davis had reviewed my book in a group.

message 38: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments So you have not reviewed, or been reviewed by any of the people (apart from Dermot) in the group?

message 39: by Montgomery (new)

Montgomery Mahaffey | 53 comments Hi Emma,

No one's reviewed me from the group either! All new faces. :)

message 40: by Emma (last edited Nov 29, 2015 03:44AM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments looks like your going to be reviewing another! as long as everyone has declared all their links with the other members of the group, we can go ahead as we have 10 members.
I will try to get everyone in so far, but the priority list will be on sign up order, then the number of clashes I have to deal with.

As you can hopefully see, working it all out is not easy, and having to wrangle with the order more than once is REALLY annoying. Please check if I've missed anything. This is the list so far:

Mike (Cannot review Barnaby)
Ryan (No clashes)
William (no clashes)
Jacob (no clashes)
Chance (Cannot review Mike or Carly))
Carly (Cannot review Mike)
Ibiloye (cannot review Carly)
Barnaby (cannot review Mike, but has a stand-in)
Montogemery. (No clashes)
Kathryn (no clashes)

message 41: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments I can't review Barnaby because he has reviewed me, but I can review Chance again, provided it's not the same book as before (and it isn't).

message 42: by Emma (last edited Nov 24, 2015 05:19AM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I've wiggled the list around every which way, and I can't fit you in Dermot, very sorry!

So we need one more. Somebody (preferably) who hasn't already been reviewed by or has reviewed, Mike, Carly, or Chance.

message 43: by Emma (last edited Nov 24, 2015 05:16AM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments When this one is full, I'll be starting up another novella group for those who haven't been able to fit into this one which (fingers crossed) is Cassandra, Dermot and Jesse.

message 44: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Budi | 19 comments Sounds great! Thank you, Emma.

message 45: by Cassandra (new)

Kathryn Occhipinti (stellalucente) | 29 comments Hello, Emma. I am interested in reviewing a book for this group. I am new and have just joined up today. I would like my travel pocket book Conversational Italian for Travelers Just the Important Phrases reviewed if possible. This is a book of Italian phrases with English translations that has quirky commentary and also tips to create your own phrases. I think it is a good travel companion and a fun read if anyone is interested.
