In joining this review group you have agreed to review the novels assigned to you on a two month schedule. The sign up phase is over and the review stage is starting.

This is Thriller Review Group 1, which will include all types of novels classified as any type of thriller including but not limited to crime, espionage, adventure, and combat. (Note that the thriller element of the works submitted will be a greater factor in the ratings than in other genre.) As with other review groups, you will be expected to read and give an honest review of the book assigned to you. Assignments will be made after the group sign-up has filled.

Participants are expected to post reviews to Goodreads. If the Goodreads review is positive (three stars or higher), the review should be posted to Amazon at the same star level, if the book is available there. This makes having accounts with both Goodreads and Amazon.com a requirement.

If a reviewer and the author agree that the review should not be posted to Goodreads due to quality issues, the reviewer is relieved of the requirement of posting the review. If this occurs in the first round, the second reviewer is relieved of the requirement to read and review the book. This is entirely at the discretion of the reviewer and is not intended in any way to manipulate the rating of any book.

Contact the authors you are scheduled to review to arrange to receive a review copy of their work.

Please post to this topic, both when you receive review copies and when you post the reviews.

If you are going to be late with your review, either post to this topic as soon as possible or message the author and the moderator.

If your book has not been reviewed by the deadline for either round, contact the review group moderator. This is necessary to make certain that the review process is fair for everyone.

If we do not have a sixth book by Monday (11/23/15), I think we should close the sign up and proceed to review with five books. If you have any input on this, please post it to this topic before Monday.

I have written to a couple of authors of thrillers I know with a link to this topic. They might be in touch?
G.J.

Oops! I just noticed it's the same Kathy Ferguson above. Sorry about that, Kathy :( Must get more sleep!

message 9: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Heidtman (kylaurel) | 92 comments I checked with one I know who is just releasing a new book, but she doesn't have the time. Emailed another this morning. But if we don't get a sixth, I'm fine going with five.

How would we do it--each person review the two books before or after his/her name or what? Does that work out right? I think this is a math problem so help me out here. I'm challenged! :-)

message 10: by K.S. (new)

K.S. Ferguson | 29 comments There's a mystery genre review group that's been open for months and months with almost no signups. I'm one of the people in that group. Perhaps messaging the others to see if their work would fit in this group? Maybe we could cut a little slack if the book is more mystery than thriller?

Kathy

That is not a problem. I have arranged review groups of five before. As long as there is not a conflict from a previous review, it will work out fine.

Good idea. I will look into it, as long as the members of this group agree to accept the sixth book as a mystery.

Okay. I took a look at the mystery review group. One of its members is already a member of this group. Another has been dismissed from the Genre Specific Review Groups for failure to fulfill commitments. The third has a current review rating of 2.31. I have some trepidations about inviting such a low rated book to be reviewed in this group. Take a look at Catharsis. If at least two members of the group are willing to read it, I will write to the author and see if she wants to join.

R.

message 14: by K.S. (new)

K.S. Ferguson | 29 comments I've emailed an author who has a suitable book to see if he's available, and I can think of one other I know of who might be interested. If neither have gotten back to the group by Monday, and no one else has tossed their hat in the ring, then I'd say go with five.

Kathy

message 15: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Heidtman (kylaurel) | 92 comments I also emailed another author in addition to the one I'd already contacted. All the ones everyone has contacted will probably want to sign up! :-)

As for Catharsis, I'd prefer passing on such a low-rated book myself. The author certainly doesn't need any more bad reviews and the odds are that's what would happen.

Ben Hammott (benhammott) | 21 comments Hi to everyone here, my author name is Ben Hammott. Laurel asked if I would like to join this group, and as you see I was and I have. If it is not to late I would like to take part in the review process and submit my new novel based on the serial killer Henry Holmes - An Insatiable Thirst for Murder: Serial Killer Henry Holmes, for your approval. This is the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Insatiable-Thir...

message 20: by K.S. (new)

K.S. Ferguson | 29 comments There doesn't seem to be much interest in a mystery review group. The last one was open over six months without getting close to filling. Since it's been a little difficult to fill this thriller group, perhaps a mystery/thriller cross-over group might be considered.

The Mystery group was open for sign up for months, and only three members signed up. We won't start another mystery group unless members ask for it, since there does not seem to be enough interest in that genre to fill a group.

Erm, R.
Did you really want me to review Ben Hammott in Round 1 and Ben to review me in Round 2?
Frustrating isn't it? I had a "difficult" group like this to schedule a couple of months ago.

Like I said Diana and Kathy each have other books I could review instead. It might help?
G.J. (giggles suppressed - honest!)

What's the practice/preference here? Do we exchange EBooks or paperbacks? EBooks clearly would be more efficient and less expensive, but I haven't done this before and just want some guidance.

The couple of times I've done review groups, we always did ebooks. If a book I'm to review is in Unlimited, I get it that way. Figure the author might as well get some benefit over and above the review. (Mine is available through Unlimited, too--hint, hint!) Otherwise, we always sent each other files in the preferred format.

I was just appointed to the board of directors of the aspirin company for being one of their major investors.

All kidding aside, I just want these groups to be a positive experience for the participants. If I have to regenerate the schedule a few times, I'm okay with that.

Also, when I did the review here, it showed up on an earlier release of the book, not the current one, and I'm not sure why or how to correct that.
