I like Veradis. I liked him even more after this.Get off to the Gadrai, Kastell. You know you want to!
I remember Veradis being my favourite character when I first read this, very true of heart.
Giant killers sounds a lot more intriguing!

They see Veradis, and he talks to them of the council, the God-war, and Kastell feels a sight excitement at the thought of it being true. Kastell feels weird that he has a friend in Veradis.
After they bid Veradis farewell a group of men attack Kastell and Maquin, one utters a greeting from Jael as he rains blows upon Kastell, then Kastell hears a sword being drawn and sees Veradis standing between him and the attackers with his sword in hand. Other men, from Romar's service see the commotion and draw their swords as they see Veradis' sword tip at one of Jael's mens throats.
Romar bids Veradis, Kastell and Jael to walk with him. He thanks Veradis, and scolds Kastell and Jael and tells them both of his plans for them for the future, and how he needs them to be Lords of his. Kastell and Jael agree to drop their grudge, but as Romar walks away Jael says to Kastell that it is far from over.
An enjoyable chapter, looking deeper into the relationship between Kastell, Romar and Jael. Should Kastell stay in Mikil and become a leader of men? Or should he join the Gadrai and leave Mikil?
