I just finished reading this book and oh my god the feels.Great characters and really strong leads.
Kestrel really stood out for me. All the inner, moral struggle she was going through the book and her way of thinking.
Absolutely loved it.
Can't wait for the second one!!
Rachel: that ending was devastating.. When I realized what had happened, I was like "Stop crashing my ship..". It broke my heart.. :/ Sarah: It gets better and better. So much character development.
What a great book!! The plot, characters, and the setting... How will I wait til next year for the second one?!?!
I know right?! if you have any questions to ask the author of TWC, feel free to ask on the Q&A thread! Marie Rutkoski starts answering on April 24th :D
I really liked Kestrel as the main character. Thinking about it now, for a lot of the book she didn't really have much agency, but that's not something that bothered me while I was reading it. The ending was great, though (in a nnnooooo kind of way).
Ooh. She's unafraid to be strident or deceptive, which is unusual--for that merit, not for the qualities mentioned she is on this list! Plus the title is perfectly apt! For all she succeeds, there's always a catch, and Maria Rutloski accomplishes that terrifically. I'm really looking forwards to The Winner's Crime... with a titch of trepidation too!
Same!! The blurb for the Winner's Crime sounds amazing... AND I can't wait to see the gorgeous cover :)
Gah. (Randomly) I really hope they don't present a love triangle. I like Kestrel and Arin too much for that...Ooh! Yes! Hopefully another lovely dress, too :D.
