message 2: by Julia (new)

Julia Rosalind dragged her stuff into an open compartment, setting Iris on the seat next to her. Her eyes were wide in astonishment at the entire place-she had never seen anything so amazing. Rose heaved her trunk up in the racks above her, and sighed as she sat down. She glanced out the window, in which she saw her family waving at her. Rose rolled her eyes slightly, grinning as she waved back. She was ready to leave, yet dreading it at the same time.

Bea was slowly walking down the hallway of the express when she noticed a compartment with only one person in there. Maybe I can just ask to sit here, slide in, and sit in silence. She figured. Bea personally despised talking, but if she could get a seat from doing it, she would talk. Timidly, she cleared her throat and asked very quietly, "Do you mind if I sit here? Most the other compartments are sorta..." She pulled the sleeves of her jacket down so she could twiddle and pull on them, a nervous habit of hers.

message 4: by Julia (new)

Julia "Full?" Rosalind supplied, tilting her head. "Go ahead, I don't mind." she added, gesturing to the seats all around her. Rose smiled slightly-she was pretty shy too. She bit her lip, and glanced at her beautiful white owl, who hooted at her. "Hush Iris..." Rosalind whispered to her snowy owl. "I hope you don't mind my owl here, she's really quite a good girl..." Rose said to the girl who had just walked in.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

"As long as the owl doesn't mind a cat." A fluffy white cat suddenly appeared at Bea's feet. She gave a soft "Mew," before leaping up onto the seat and curling up into a soft ball. Bea smiled a weak smile then took up her cat and sat across from the girl who had allowed her in. "And thank you." She said in a tiny voice. Bea wasn't the best with meeting new people. It made her uncomfortable and she never knew what to do in the situation she was in.

message 6: by Julia (new)

Julia Rosalind smiled slightly, and said, "I'm Rosalind, but everyone calls me Rose... And my owl's Iris." Rose opened the cage for her owl, who hooted her thanks and flew out, landing gracefully on the top of her cage. Rose gently stroked her white feathers, streaked with black, showing that she was female.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

"I'm Beatrice, but I prefer Bea. Not that many people call me that though..." She muttered. Bea personally despised the name Beatrice. Beatrice sounded like a name for weak people, and she wasn't weak. Bea sounded like a name for tougher people. She preferred to be thought of as tough... "And this is America." She layed a hand on her freshly bathed cat. "She's one of the nicest cats around."

message 8: by Julia (new)

Julia Rose smiled, wondering why Bea would name her cat America. There were plenty of reasons, but her curiosity was peaked, so she inquired, "Why did you name her America?" Personally, Rosalind liked the name Beatrice, so she also added, "You have a very pretty name, too." Rose looked back at the cat, to which Iris hooted softly at, curious. Iris flapped once, landing next to the white cat.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

America opened one eye, then shut it. A small look of astonishment crossed Bea's face, then she quickly hid it. America usually hissed at owls and let them know that she was boss and they better get away. Deciding that she should just let it go, for a bit at least, she looked back over to Rose. "I named America America because I heard the people are sorta free there. I guess that's why I named her that..." Bea trailed off. She didn't feel like going into a big life story. She also decided to somewhat ignore Rose's last comment. "Thank you." Was all she said.

message 10: by Julia (new)

Julia Rose nodded, and looked at America. She was curious about Bea's life story, but she could tell that she did not want to talk about it. And Rose was fine with that, because she didn't want to talk about her life story. "Iris has, so far, been very good with other animals. Like our dog..." Rose said, glad that her owl only fluffed her feathers and started itching under her wing.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

((Do you mind if Bridgett joins us?))

"That's nice." Bea whispered softly. America opened both of her eyes and stretched a yawn from her mouth. She sleepily padded over to Bea and curled up in her lap. She didn't know where she would be without America. Probably insane, in an Insane Asylum. Yup. There was probably a room with her name on it in there right now. Then scratched off with a note that said, Room now unclaimed; person saved by cat.

message 12: by Julia (new)

Julia ((Not at all!))

Rose looked out side the compartment window, hardly startled when Iris flapped back over and landed on her knee. "Hi sweetie," Rose whispered, digging an owl treat out of her pocket and feeding it to Iris, who immediately flew back to her perch on top of her cage. Rose stiffed a laugh at Iris, and looked back out the window, taking in every sight that she saw.

message 13: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette Marlene slid the door open, "Um, Is this seat taken?" She shuffled her feet awkwardly, unsure what she should do. She looked at the other two girls expectantly.

message 14: by Julia (new)

Julia ((Bridgette went, so now you, mwah, zen Bridgette again?))

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

((Agreed! Mwah!!!))

"I don't think so." Bea whispered. Her voice was barely audible. She aimed her head down to the ground. Two people in one day and in less than five minuets. This was and wasn't a very good start for her. Yes, she wanted to make new friends, but she didn't want to be around too many people.

message 16: by Julia (new)

Julia Rosalind realized that this new girl was uncomfortable, and in an awkward situation. But she also realized that Bea didn't want more people in here. Rose raised an eyebrow and said shyly, "Um... Sure...?" Her owl, Iris, hooted at the new girl. Rose blushed slightly, and supplied, "I'm Rosalind, but people call me Rose. This is Bea... Oh, and my owl's Iris, she wouldn't want to be forgotten..." She laughed softly at her owl, hoping to ease the tension.

message 17: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette ((Sorry! I had to leave quickly earlier!))

Marlene laughed as she entered and sat next to Rose, "Hi," She offered cheerfully, "I'm Marlene, but you can call me Mar, and this," she pulled her owl's cage into view, "Is Rhyme." The owl crooned a greeting to Iris and eyed the cat suspiciously.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

America took great pleasure in hissing at the new owl. Bea turned bright red and muttered an apology. She turned her eyes towards the floor. She seems really outgoing. They both do. I hope this train ride doesn't last long... Bea wasn't a talkative person. She never was nor would she ever be. And these two seemed talkative...

message 19: by Julia (new)

Julia Rosalind, not at all talkative, nodded and smiled. Iris hooted back at Rhyme, causing Rose to giggle a bit. Rose bit her lip, blushing scarlet. She quickly looked away, and rubbed her scar on the palm of her right hand-her nervous habit.

message 20: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette Marlene noticed Rose's scar, "Where did you get that?" she asked carefully. She didn't want to pry but it was something to get conversation going. It was getting a little too awkward for Mar. Rhyme hooted loudly to Iris, she seemed to be trying to get a conversation going too.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Bea rolled her eyes at the ground. It seemed that people here only wanted to talk. Especially this Mar girl. But Bea didn't mind. She was nice enough, or that's how she seemed. Nice. She wanted to start a conversation and maybe get to know them. That was cool.

message 22: by Julia (new)

Julia ((Sure!))

Rosalind looked up, and stopped feeling her scar. "My scar? Oh, I was using a scooter and I fell... So I got a rock stuck in my hand..." Rose said, blushing. Realizing that if neither of them was Muggleborn, they may not know what a scooter was, so she added, "You know what a scooter is, right?" Rose hoped it wasn't a stupid question. She wasn't completely certain what it was like to be anything other than a Muggleborn.

message 23: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette ((Of course!))

Mar nodded, "I've seen a few before. It was a long time ago. They look fun." She smiled at Rose, still not quite sure what to think of her new acquaintances.
Rhyme fluffed up her feathers and hooted again.

Suddenly, the doors clattered open and a tall, willowy girl with wild, dark hair hanging over her shoulders stuck her head in the compartment. She smiled at the three girls already sitting in the compartment and opened the door a little more, enough for her to slip through. A small tabby kitten bounded eagerly at her heels.

"Hi!" She said, cheerfully, grinning. "Mind if I join you? I'm Lena. First year."

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

((Sorry. I was typing it up and then my mum took away my PC AND my phone.))

Bea slid closer to her corner. There were a lot of people in here, for her liking. Bea was a naturally shy person, and when there were more than two people in a small area, she immediately began to tense up. And what's more was that they all seemed talkative. Not her cup of tea, but it would work.

Her eyes went from the floor to the girl's face. She couldn't just leave her standing there, so she nodded her head and then turned her gaze out the window. She would let the other two handle this.

message 26: by Julia (new)

Julia Rosalind nodded to the girl. Mar and even this new girl seemed so outgoing and talkative. "I'm Rosalind, but I go by Rose," she said. "I think we're all first years..." Rose added, looking at Bea then Mar. She bit her lip looking at the new girl. She was tall and had dark hair, not entirely unlike herself. Iris hooted loudly at the new girl who came in the compartment, complaining at the noise. And probably the kitten.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

((Bridgett?))

H :) | 53 comments ((...lolz :) should we just keep posting for now? Or wait...?))

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

((Idk... If we waited, that would be nice of us, Bridgett wont be in for quite a few more hours. But if we continued, I don't know I how she'd feel. I'll post a message on a group we are in together.))

message 30: by H :) (new)

H :) | 53 comments ((Ok, lolz :) that's totally fine.))

message 31: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette Marlene waved politely, "Hi Lena! I'm Marlene! Of course you can join us!" She smiled at the other girl. Rhyme hooted her greeting and ruffled her feathers. Mar laughed, "And this is Rhyme."

((I'm so sorry! I must not have gotten the notif! I had no idea!))

message 32: by H :) (last edited Apr 30, 2014 07:04PM) (new)

Lena smiled widely. "Thanks," she grinned, nodding to all the girls, before turning her attention to the owl. "Aww, she's so sweet!" She raised an eyebrow, looking up. "Wait, is she--or he--a girl or boy?"

Lena said this all in a quick, rapid fire sort of way that she tended to speak with. She crossed the compartment to sit down, and surveyed all her companions, smiling. They all seemed nice, so far, and they were all in her year. She hadn't been worried about making friends, and now realised that she probably didn't have to. Lena wasn't the type to worry about anything, but her mother did nothing but. If only she could see me now... She'd have to stop worrying. Lena smirked.

message 33: by Julia (new)

Julia ((What is the order again?))

message 34: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette ((LOL! I can't remember either! :D))

message 35: by H :) (new)

H :) | 53 comments ((Lolz, neither can I :P I think it was Luna/Ezra, Julia, Bridgette then me...lol))

message 36: by Julia (new)

Julia ((Okay, so LUNA!!! ;) ))

message 37: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette ((:D))

message 38: by H :) (new)

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

((Sorry. GR broke down all of yesterday. What about Julia? I mean, my charrie just went... And all she's gonna do is sit there. Julia can go ahead and have my turn.))

message 40: by Julia (new)

Julia Iris hooted angrily at Lena. It was a how-could-you-ever-miss-me kind of hoot. After all, she was a snowy owl. A very regal one too.

Rosalind blushed at Iris, and cooed softly to her bird, "It's alright Iris." She fluffed her feathers, and Rose rolled her eyes, but smiled. Rose surveyed the girls, wondering what kind of families they came from. She was Muggleborn, and the only witch in her family. Rose flashed her eyes to Bea, thinking that she probably wasn't going to talk. Rose herself didn't really want to, but she knew that her mother would be upset if she didn't.

message 41: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette Marlene laughed softly, "This is Rhyme," Rhyme hooted a greeting, "She doesn't like her cage." Marlene shook her head in mock disapproval as Rhyme began gibbering to herself. "And who is that?" She motioned to the kitten.

message 42: by H :) (new)

H :) | 53 comments "Jinx," Lena smiled. "He's a little of enthusiastic, so...um, he's never tried to eat an owl before..." She grinned. "Kidding. I mean, not kidding. He never has, but I think he's a little--" she glanced at the kitten hidden under the seat now. "--scared of them. Little coward." She laughed, looking back up. "And who's this?"

She smiled and extended a hand to the beautiful, snowy owl who had been hooting softly. Lena reached out to touch the soft feathers, more tentatively than she was known to be. Lena was never shy, cautious or anything resembling quiet. But now she held a respectful silence as she gently tried stroking the feathers of the owl. Lena smiled and waited to see if the owl was friendly, or if she was going to loose her fingers.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

All through this, Bea just sat and looked out the window. There were quite a few people here. She figured that she should just move out and try to find another compartment... One with less people. She could meat someone new. And maybe they wouldn't be as talkative. That sounded decent... But she didn't feel like getting up and moving at the very moment. It didn't feel right.

message 44: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette Marlene glanced over and smiled at Lena, "Jinx, that's a great name!," She watched her pet Iris for a while, "Um... Iris might be friendly... I'm not really sure... but I wouldn't suggest petting Rhyme, you could loose a finger." Mar looked over at Bea, "Bea, are you alright?"

message 45: by H :) (new)

H :) | 53 comments Lena laughed. She had a fairly loud, very open laugh that was breezy and sincere, not annoyingly loud or painfully soft. Jinx leapt up into her lap and Lena smiled, curling a hand around him. "Yeah, well. Not the most original name, but my older brother messed with my choice of names, and he won't answer to anything else." She smiled, rubbing the kitten affectionately around the ears, glancing up concernedly at Bea. "Yeah, you ok?"

Lena cringed slightly, wondering if she was intruding. She never seemed to know how or what to say... It wasn't natural for her to hold it in. She hadn't really had to think of this before, when she was just a little kid at a little muggle school. Lena smiled cheerfully at Bea, green eyes a glittering mix of friendliness and apology.

Lena realised she was in her muggle clothes, running her hands along her jeans. She grinned slightly bashfully, looking out of place. Well, she always looked out of place in her raggedy, comfortable clothes. Here, though, it would be double strange. But this didn't really occur to Lena as she glanced around at her new friends. She'd never been one to worry.

"D'you when we're supposed to change?" She babbled, cheerfully.

message 46: by Julia (new)

Julia "Probably when it starts to get darker..." Rose said, looking outside. "Scratch that," she said, noticing less and less towns. "Maybe we should change now." Rose looked back at Iris, who hooted softly and tilted her head, making Rose laugh. "Lena, this is Iris. She won't bite off your fingers, as long as your nice to her." she said, putting out a hand and scratching her fluffed up chest. Iris clicked her beak happily.

Rose stood up, Iris ruffling her feathers and sitting on Rose's seat. "Shall we change?" she asked, not feeling like that was too weird of a question.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

"I'm fine." Bea replied softly. She didn't enjoy the large amount of people that were fretting over her. She wasn't that important, and it only made her uncomfortable. She never tore her eyes away from the window. It was so lovely, all the trees and the fields, and the occasional river. Nothing could beat that.

America mewed and nuzzled her way onto Bea's lap. The cat stuck out like a sore thumb. Everyone else seemed to have an owl. Would she be the only one at school with a cat? If so, would people tease her about it? The thoughts brought goosebumps to her arm. She closed her eyes and tried to imagine what it would be like to be the only one with a cat...

message 48: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette Marlene shrugged, "I'm fine in what I'm wearing but," she shrugged, "I'm not sure." Mar smiled at the cat, and laughed as Rhyme hooted her displeasure at being inside her cage. Mar's finger absenmindedly slipped throught the bars as Rhyme bent her head to be stroked, "What do you suppose its like there?"
