Juniper (jooniperd) ahh....april! here's to hoping we see sunshine and warmer weather really soon. what a winter it has been for many of us!!

so, what are you reading this month? do you have any specific reads already planned for april? or do you just pick and choose your reads based on your mood?

Juniper (jooniperd) i have two books on the go right now:

* A House in the Sky by Amanda Lindhout and Sara Corbett, which is for a monthly group read in another group. it's a really quick and engaging read. i am not totally sold on the style of the writing. also, given i know of amanda's story from the media, i know the gist of what happened to her already. it's been hard for me to not shout at the book: "DON'T GO THERE!" i suppose, though, her story is challenging me to keep a more open mind about adventure, and wanting certain kinds of careers. what happened to amanda is heartbreaking. she must be an incredibly strong person,

* The Burgess Boys, which i am reading in my efforts to read through the 20 nominated books up for the women's prize for fiction. this is also proving to be a quick read. i am about 100 pages in, but i am not sure about it yet. some of the other novels i have read from the longlist are stronger. but my feelings could change.

:)

I pick books based on my mood. The warmer weather (finally!!) is making me want to read something beachy.

it's a really engaging and quick read, brenda! the discussions about it have been quite good so far. (i am reading it for another group's monthly read.)

Juniper (jooniperd) i am still on The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and i am just not feeling it you guys. i will carry on with it, but i really feel as though i am going to be in the minority on this one. everyone else i know who has read it has loved it and raved about it. i have avoided reading full reviews because i don't like knowing too much about books before i read them, but it's been hard to miss the love and attention tartt's book has received.

I'm reading "The Wives of Los Alamos"by Tarashea Nesbit. What a unique style of writing she has. Enjoying it so far. I'm also reading "My Wish List" by Gregoire Delacourt. It's about a woman's dreams and when they come true what then? The French magazine Elle compares it to "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" but that annoyed me as I loved that book and feel nothing yet compares. Next up some Christian fiction for book group and some literary biographies.

Darcy (drokka) | 17 comments Still making my way through a few bricks, but also have started A Burnable Book

Sandra | 33 comments So far this month I have read:
The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld This was a great book! Very sad and dark, but also hopeful...
Missing You by Harlan Coben Great mystery, kept me turning pages.
The Comfort of Lies by Randy Susan Meyers Did not like the subject, but the writing was good.
The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen A nice, sweet, uncomplicated story. A little bit magical...
The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry byGabrielle Zevin This was my favourite book so far this month. Absolutely!

I am currently reading The Hole in the Middle by Kate Hilton I seem to be having problems getting into this one, has taken me 2 days to read 65 pages, which is usually a sign that the book is boring me. Hopefully it gets better...

message 22: by Juniper (new)

Juniper (jooniperd) so...i am reading The Ten-Year Nap by Meg Wolitzer. i am about halfway through and i am pretty lukewarm about it all. has anyone else read this one? it's a few years old, but i wanted to read it first, before trying wolitzer's more recent, and well-received book, The Interestings.
